Keep going with it, and use the fact that there is a similar one out there as motivation to work harder and make it better than you originally intended. In the end, though, I agree with Paul that it's not worth it thinking too competitively.

My Assemblee entry turned out to be a combination of Paper Moon (which I knew about beforehand), Time Fcuk (which I didn't) and Depth (which only got announced during the contest). I finished it anyway  

well you can break up any game that way. Look at Spelunky. You could either think of it as a highly original game or a combination of muon and cave story mixed with Indiana Jones. I have played many games with the same concept over and over and enjoyed every single one. So please finish your game good sir and good luck on all future projects.
