Hello everyone, I wanted you to ask what is the best font to use for the intro's screens of my game Noctu. Consider that the game is set in the early '900, and these screens will appear for a few seconds, then the user will not have much time to read the text (in fact I reduce that compared to what I thought initially). The first is a font with serif but somewhat less readable than others, and it was my original choice, but then I began to suspect that it was difficult to read in seconds in which the image appears, and then I tried with two other fonts. What do you think? thank you very much!

#3 because it's the most legible.

Agreed, I personally don't care too much for fancy fonts.

Comic Sans. Because it pisses the most people off.

Okay, seriously though, I'd go with #1. #3 just doesn't fit the style, besides #1 would force the people to read more closely, thus you ensure they "get the message" and immerse sooner.

Mipey, that is an awful reason to choose a font.
A lack of legibility ≠ people reading closer and getting the information. A lack of legibility means people will not bother reading it.

Font #3 is the way to go, although the antialiasing on all of them is a bit odd, I'd suggest working on that if you can.

the third one is from an American Type Founders specimen book of 1923...and for sure is the most legible...isn't too neutral for an intro screen?

As I said somewhere else, #2 maybe 'less italic', if you have this variation...
It's legible but nonetheless a bit personalized, while #3 is too unpersonal.

#3. It's not the best choice; it's the ONLY choice.

And I don't even know how a font can be "unpersonal".

The number 1 rule of modern typography is that people shouldn't be aware of typography at all. So try to make it as neutral as possible, don't use an over embellished font like #1, and never use italic as a default like #2. So yeah, use #3, it's perfectly fine.

#3 all the way.
It feel like a typewriter font and IMO it suit what i see more than a handwriting font.
Film noir + typewriter = win!

Well, you know... the default font of programs: Arial, Times, Verdana, Myriad, Comic Sans... feel unpersonal because it seems that you didn't even think about what you chose.
I am not saying that the #3 is a default font, but the others have more style. Altough as I said, #2 need not be in italic.

The second one is alright.
And if you're going to use it in every other dialog in-game, I'd say keep the fonts the same and go for it.

#1 looks most in tune for that kind of genre for me.

Add an option in the menu

Good luck with the game!

Same for me. Use only one, after all, they have the same purpose (dialogs).

If you take the first font and do something so that the characters are wider, it might be more legible.
