http://www.mindmeister.com/

Anybody else use this?  Nice online brainstorming/organizational tool.  Free account lets you have one map that you can share with others like a Google Doc.

I heard about it from Michal's blog (Soldat, Link-Dead). http://mm.soldat.pl/

Seems pretty neat.  Not sure that I'd use it myself.  But, sweet find Derek.

yeah mindmapping!  Smiley
i use mindmaps for more than a year now and just discovered these programs lately...
i think the best way to go is to use a combination of both:

-oldschool on a piece of paper
and
-software supported on the screen

what i use
i use xmind (offline / win, mac, linux ) and mind42 (online). both are free and offer unlimited mindmaps.
(since there is also a pro version i first thought that the basic version is extremely stripped down...but its not. heres a comparison).
so i tried some different programs and in my opinion these 2 are currently the best free apps that i have tested yet.

also nice is text2mindmap. it is very basic and therefore not recommended for more complex stuff but for some quick thought structuring its a neat little app.
i think mindmeister is also pretty good but i havent tested it yet extensively.

further reading and info
anyways for anyone who is interested in mindmapping i recommend to check out 99 Mind Mapping Resources, Tools, and Tips and my discoveries of mind mapping related sites which i have listed on stumbleupon.

Thanks for sharing all the links!  I tend to struggle with finding intuitive ways to organize my thoughts and this might be just the ticket.

What is wrong with Freemind?

Also, does anyone have a recommendation for family-tree-esque trees? I'd like to organize my character relationships, but that's kinda difficult with rigid mindmaps.

Shit yeah son, I've been using the hell out of it to plan out a finite state machine.

Personally, I prefer using Freemind. Even if it's ass-slow java, it's offline. But since I only use for personal use, this doesn't seem to be a problem.

I've been using it some the last couple of weeks, a coworker suggested I take a look at it. A nice tool to have.

Also not bad is bubbl.us, which is a free tool. I used it quite a lot a while back, not sure if it's advanced much since.
