GiraffeRPG is the beginning of a wonderful bright new future for everyone who ever wanted to roleplay as a Giraffe! Slip into the hooves of our protaganist giraffe as you quest to ... ah.. hm.. Well, anyhow, this game is a collaboration between myself and (as you may have already guessed) the illustrious JR Hill. Here's a couple very early screens: The game in its current form (outdated tiles and character):The map editor (WIP): The Map Editor is intended to be a fairly generic XML Map Editor that will run in Adobe AIR. More to come soon.

My tentative to do list: - More tiles, especially obstacles like rocks/mountains/houses/etc - more characters - enemies - weapons - armor/clothing

Yellow/brown giraffe on yellow/brown tiles was probably not the best idea, but the new tiles look great. THIS IS GOING TO RAWCK

Do you need tiles in all directions? (i.e. flipped/rotated?) When I start really focusing on them it's going to be a lot of tiles (hopefully) BTW: Some guys.

Not actually a screenshot! But maybe now y'all will get off our backs. Gosh! Also: Could I do tiles that aren't squares? I think a 4:3 (15x20 or 18x24 or 24x32 px?) ratio in tiles could make it look a lot better. Plus I'm probably going to revamp everything anyway since I don't like the blocky style the tiles have right now.

Not actually a screenshot! I like it If you feel that 4x3 would work a lot better I could work something out. Square would of course be easiest, because I am dumb and asymmetrical shapes confuse my programming brain. However feel free to put in 45° edges (eg., canyon ledges and fences in Zelda: A link to the past.) I'll code up some slope math for those suckers Also we can lay stuff on top of the map, like trees and rocks, to vary it more. These don't have to stick to the tile grid so keep that in mind The map editor is nearly finished to the point where it can make some dummy content that's not randomly generated. This is a good thing(tm)

Sweet! In that case I can really just work on terrain boundaries and add the flourishes separately. I'll stick to squares too, but probably vary north and south edges slightly to give it a feeling of perspective.

Update: The map editor is nearly finished, and I've passed on an early version to JR. This version features motivational dialogues to brighten any level designer's day. It's coming along quite nicely, I just need to spend less time on my day job and more time on my real job. I mean.. er... my 'hobby.' (Hopefully someday real job.)

I am likewise compelled to approve. Weird timing for two giraffe-based games at once. They look to be fairly different in nature, though, so all I can say is... May the best giraffe win? I'm digging your guys and your nifty map editor (I'm using textpad to make my maps... blehhhh).

Sadly, I am posting to announce this project's cancellation That is, If by cancellation you mean... MAP EDITOR PHASE 1 COMPLETE!! Maps are able to be built, interconnected and imported directly to your favourite giraffe role playing game. Real Customer Testimony: 'It's great! Eyyyyyy!' - Ninja FonzieMore to come, sooner or later.
