Looking a might dandy.
Not sure you're after title suggestions but I once owned a Giraffe. My room mate christened him Raffy Gee - true story. I've always been fond of the name so just in case you are in the market for some title suggestions here's two: 'Raffy Gee's RPG' or simply 'Raffy PG'.

I shall make a shrine for this game when it is completed and emboss the words 'JR Hill' on it.

Looks like it's really coming along nicely! And the positive affirmations in the map editor are awesome. I'm going to start doing that for all the things I have to make at the office.

Yay double post!
As of now I'm making tiles and trying to think of some new terrains cause right now they're all pretty derivative of other games.
Base terrain tiles (I haven't made) so far: Grass Dirt Sand Snow Water Stone Lava Metal Ash Guts Clouds Candy Void

What about an elephant graveyard like in The Lion King? Or the inside of a giant baobab tree?

Jelly
Jelly tiles sounds good. How about: 'Behind the Radiator' or 'In the Belly Button' - I see fluff and lint appearing in both.

Dude that one episode of Ren & Stimpy where they both imploded into Stimpy's bellybutton which eventually imploded out of existence tripped me out as a kid.
I'm going to go see if it's on youtube.

Man, I loved Ren & Stimpy. The music for the end-credit's was superb. I think the Ren & Stimpy cartoons, and the Jackanory, with Rik Mayall on, were some of the most anarchic/punk - and therefore best - kids programs made.

My friend, when it comes to 'derivative', there is something every good artist ought to know.In other news: For those interested, I will be cross-posting a bit between here and my usual dev blog. I plan on taking my dev blog in a slightly different direction than this DevLog, so if the more technical underpinnings interest you, please pop by there. Back to work.

Seconded. I'm jealous of that map editor! It looks pretty spiffy, seeing it was just designed for one game project. The ingenuitive humor makes me want to make maps in it all day. The Fonzie quote made me want to make maps in it all night.

I guess instead of derivative I meant cliche or generic. I want to take people places they don't expect to go.

Argh, I've spent hours trying to make a good textured grass only to finally decide it just looks better as a flat green (with the other plants overlaid)
Jotapeh, do you need the entities in a tilesheet or as individual .png files? The latter would be easier for me to create since I wouldn't be as restricted in how big/small to make things. And should I create more than one tilesheet? For example, since trees or clouds might be on a layer above the player should I separate them?

For each entity, go ahead and make them like you made the giraffe - one spritesheet per entity, with all the frames of animation in it. (If something is only 1 frame and not animated, that's cool too. Just have it as a single frame .png.) Trees, shrubs, rocks, whatever might go 'on top' of the landscape, please treat it as an 'entity' (so its own separate spritesheet.) This also means you can animate them blowing in the wind (like the rustling flowers in SNES Zelda or the wavy grass in Secret of Mana.) I also realized I hadn't shown you the fully animated giraffe yet. Splendiferous, no? Well, soon. Yes he can walk on water for now, I will be removing his Jesus powers shortly D: Onward!

More stuff added, a couple of NPCs, some collision (basically only prevents you from walking out to the middle of lakes,) moar dialogue. Oh and .. music*. Nothing too impressive yet, just getting all the little moving parts working *ed's note: to be replaced for obvious © reasons

Looks like the standing frames are in the animation loop.
Also the turtle is hilarious now.
