I like listening to talks with Game Devs while I work. Jon Blow does a bunch of talks: http://braid-game.com/news/?p=666 at Google. An older thread about videogame TED Talks. I really like Randy Smith's talks, but I can't find audio of them. I'm sure you folks have some good ones bookmarked. Share 'em!

Here's a talk from Dave Edery about what XBLA and PSN are looking for in the games they promote/publish:
Dave is pretty qualified to talk about this as he used to be the portfolio manager for XBLA.

That is a cool talk, but the intro kicked my ass!

This one is a panel discussion about character-based AI in first person shooters. Not the best video quality but the audio is pretty good. It's got guys who worked on AI for F.E.A.R., BioShock, and Halo:

Wow, about 50% of this is just a back story of easter eggs, and its pretty amazing. The Shakespeare/Sir Francis Bacon stuff is great! The harpsichord gets a little annoying cause his voice is kinda quiet, but I really enjoyed this. Edit: HOLY CRAP, PSALM 46 IS SHAKE SPEAR O_O http://bartleby.com/108/19/46.html 46 words from the beginning = Shake, 46 words from the end = Spear

After listening I checked too, and it blew my mind! ALSO, it doesn't work for the international edition, I don't know what that means, but yeah!

I'm assuming everyone has already heard of these, but in the unlikely event that you haven't, here are 2 pretty good podcasts. The first guy doesn't respond to comments or forum posts or e-mails which I think is rather odd considering you could count the number he receives on one hand. The second one is by Krystian Majewski who is currently nominated for 3 awards at this years igf and also has time to respond to every comment anyone posts on his website. http://www.indiegamepod.com/http://gamedesignreviews.com/

Teehee. Remind me to make it so a screen dump of all the maps in one of my games makes a big picture.

I was just gonna post that DICE one. It got kind of crazy at the end, but I liked the bit in the middle when he was talkin about Mafia Wars and Club Penguin.

Yeah, that disturbed me deeply. Reversing John Blow and applying it to the structure of our minds, not a fan of that.

Woah hold on a second. Do people actually go to publishers without a finished prototype and the publishers don't always say no? I thought you went along with a finished product and they either said yes or no. I wasn't aware that they paid you to make the game AFTER greenlighting a proposal. I thought they took a cut just for being on their network. Otherwise wouldn't they have like a million proposals every day? I'm confused. Like, could Terry rock up to sony and say "you give me $500,000 and I'll put VVVVVV on PSN"? Because it sure sounds like he could.

@DWWilsonHere's a quote from Sony's Phil Gaskell if you have an idea, and you don't know where to go or who to contact then you could do worse than sending it to [email protected], which is a mailbox for anyone with a game idea... ...it really has never been easier for an independent game maker to get their game published on a Sony platform. So there you go knock yourself out.
