Recently, I started to feel that the post counter is meaningless. The number of posts you have does not indicate how much a part of the community you are, or for how well written your posts are (except for yours truly, of course  ). It might also be promoting spamming of some members. If just a tiny bit. Personally I'm all for ripping that sucker out (Not the custom titles though, those are awesums). And I want to know what the rest of TIGS thinks. VOTE AND DISCUSS. |

i'd vote for removal.
at the most basic level - it doesn't have any positive / useful effects, and can be seen as an incentive to post for the sake of posting.

If the community uses the post count as a spam motive, then the problem is with the members and not the system? I mean, post count always existed and it was never a problem before, I think.
Just one question, though:

I was a forum mod for 2 years, and as far as I can recall the post count would still technically exist, it just wouldn't be displayed anymore.

Ein, you talking crazy. There are no secret forums, you know that.  And I'm not saying they're promoting spamming here in TIGS, but like kachowski mentioned, they serve no good purpose either. If anything removing them would reduce clutter.

What does the level counter do now? Is it 100s of posts, capped at 10? If so I think it's reasonable to keep that, if the post count goes. Maybe with a lower cap.

As long as we can keep the manbaby avatars as mentioned, otherwise there's not a quick way to see if someone's announcements post or whatever is their first one or their 100th.

I think it's best if we experimented. Stay a month of so without them, see if anyone even misses them.
