I think removing signatures, avatars, and blocks has nothing to do with removing the post count.
You can turn off signatures, I think the focus here is turning off a feature which cannot be deactivated by the user. And I apologies for posting again, I just noticed a lot of uproar over other issues that were not really the focus of the thread. So once again, Rip it out.

Remove the post count and anything needed to be taken away, but make it available in the profile page. Personally I don't want to be active for 'nothing'. And I'm curious about this 'special features for people with certain post count' thing. Maybe I'll spam for it (not really lol)

That's a well thought out idea man, I agree with this 100%.

Sometimes when I check out games in the feedback section or music in the audio section, I like to know how many posts the person has so that I can gauge whether or not they've just signed up to spam about their stuff... if they only have a few posts and never take the time to comment on anyone else's topics or participate in the community I generally won't leave them feedback (unless it really catches my eye). That would be the only reason I'd like to know how many posts someone has... besides that though I don't really care.

Keep the squares or little thingies.
The post count can be seen on someone's page, so if you really suspect someone of spamming, you can just click on their name...
However, I don't really think this is all such a big issue, as very few people seem to care about their postcount.

The way I see it we have nothing to lose by getting rid of the postcount. There'll be no issue, so long as you keep it on the profile page. That way you can still check out if someone's just here to spam their own work or cause mischief, and that'd be the only situation where I see post count being relevant.
It's a really bad quantitative measure of activity that really doesn't speak about a person in any meaningful way. And personally, I think that theres that intimidation factor when you're new and the 8000 posts man comes along.
Post count is just something thats there and nobody really knows why. Its like the capslock key. How often do you really need to talk in capital letters consecutively? Not all that often I'd wager.
Personally I'd love to see what happens if theres absolutely no record of post count anywhere, but maybe thats just me.

Why not make the post-count optional, as is the case with avatars, signatures, etc.?
You don't have to like the post count, but I'd rather it stuck around.

How about instead of giving a direct post count, just make the levels a bit more limited, obscure, and informative.
Maybe Something like...
0-10 New Member 11-100 Junior Member 100+ Senior Member
The actual ranges are just mockups but if you looked at a current snapshot of the community I think you'd be able to set up the ranges nicely.

I sorta like post-counts as a way to determine what forums people can see/post in. For example, requiring a certain post count or higher to post in announcements keeps out those just looking to PR about their game. At least in theory.
However, I'm all for removing them from being visible at a glance and moving them to someone's profile.

Would prefer an upvote/downvote system instead. And if someone's relative upvote/downvote affects how strong their votes are

No upvoting/downvoting/grading systems. Those encourage all sorts of nasty behaviour.
It's best if we police ourselves without the use of such features.

I like the post counts, but it wouldn't break my heart to see them go. I do consciously evaluate posts based on the author's post count, which is probably not a great thing to do.
Edit: postcount++

There are legitimate reasons someone might want to check out a user's post count or join date, and I think both of those ought to appear on profile pages. There's not really any reason to conceal that information.
As for post count appearing with your posts, we don't really have a postcount-spam issue (yet), but nor is it necessary. So sure, ditch it.
Custom titles are inoffensive. Some of us use them for our real actual names so they fill a need, really.
Sigs can be pretty annoying. Users who abuse them are rare here, but that kind of just makes it even more strikingly irritating, which is a shame because the perpetrators aren't aware of what they're doing. If it were me I'd limit them to three lines, text only. And almost nobody would be affected.

Pretty much this is the only use I can think of. So I guess for me there's not much difference if the stay or they go. As for custom titles, they have a kind of injoke thing on them, but I can't really say that it bothers me at all, and don't know why would. It's the kind of thing just what happens when people spend time together online (or not), they end up having injokes. If you get it, great; if you don't, what's the big deal?

Pretty much this is the only use I can think of. Is this beneficial though? I'm not advocating someone spamming their game but maybe someone doesn't think they have anything to offer for whatever reason, and posting their game and seeing feedback might give them the nudge to reciprocate. I guess it comes down to being slightly more inclusive and having to manually deal with more problems, or being slightly more exclusive and inherently keeping the problems away. Also maybe replacing the post count with your join date might be more informative as I doubt there are problematic sleep-cells within tigsource.

I kinda like postcounts (and like Laura said, it's useful at times), but let's try something new. I'll take it out and replace it with karma for awhile and see what that's like. Science experiments are cool.
