Perhaps that guy does in fact know something about marketing after all Grin

There's no doubt that JForce is good at marketing, at least much better than most indies.

He is excellent at marketing.

Too bad a game dev team led by a marketer sounds like it would produce the most contrived, cookie-cutter game ever (if it produces anything at all).

But hey, I don't think I've ever seen a finished indie game headed up by a marketing guy, so prove me wrong I guess.

I don't think his marketing is that great -- aren't 90% of the people who know about the game so far indie developers? The kind who can make their own games and don't need to buy games from others? Not that this is an easy feat to achieve, but I just mean it won't necessarily lead to a lot of sales.

I really cannot understand why people are still being dicks towards these guys.

I agree, but on the other hand it's only fair -- if someone tells a community that all their games are crap, they should expect some backlash Smiley

Their marketing guy reminds me a bit of my friend charbile and MDickie in his personality -- egotistic but in a way that isn't annoying.

Becoming well-known in the indie game community was the first phase of my elaborate marketing plan (actually that programmer ad was the first phase Wink). This was the sole purpose of Episode 1. In the future I'll have videos & events that will target bigger, more mainstream communities. By the time we're finished, the entire gaming world is going to have J Force instilled in their memories forever.  Smiley

The problem with the kind of marketing done here is that it mainly puts the silly guy behind it on our mind, but not the game. I mean, I'll always remember that one J-Fizzle guy who was being silly in the Tigsource forums, but I don't think I'd immediately recognize the game if it ever came out and I wouldn't be all "Oh shit, it's out" either.

The awareness is there, yes, but it's more for the team than for the game. The attention-whoring type of marketing basically. If you just tell people "So yeah, we're a bunch of guys and we're making this top-down shooter" they'll be "meh". But if you're being completely irrational and loud about it, people will at least look at you.

What Annabelle Kennedy, for example, does is good "marketing" for a game. I've seen like two pictures of Ciellus (with one being drawn, the other pixel art) and I so want that game already. Give the people something awesome, but only give them a bit of it, so they want more.

The first step of good marketing is releasing a product.
If there's no product then it's a scam.

Just to clarify, I meant to say that the unintended "marketing" Anabelle does with a few pictures works a hundred times better than all the ruckus J-Force is trying to cause.

Well, as a general rule, concept art works far better than buzz words. TIGers are picture whores  Kiss

Will J-Force games' first "most kickass indie game ever" be released before DNF???  If so, I can't wait!

ep 6:

It actually looks playable there. However, the frame rate really goes down at one point, and the sprites look way too small, especially near the end of the video...
