Hm, I just got a neat idea.
After the initial Pirate Heroes thing, you could just make a quick blank card template, and just make a site based around this for people to upload their custom templates and cards. That would be a very cool thing!
And everything could be titled "____ Heroes" for consistency.

I'm major bummed that you dropped the 'dungeon' theme. I was hoping this was a way to get my 7yr old into the Fantasy thing and maybe eventually into D&D.
Why not post the files on boardgamegeek so we can play 'Gem Dungeon' as you had it. PLEASE!
Either way 'Pirates' does look good too.

From what I've seen of the earlier stages of the game, it looked like something that was better suited to a fantasy dungeon crawler - your description of the pirate theme felt a bit like it might be a new skin crowbarred over mechanics which weren't originally designed to simulate adventure on the high seas. That said, I'm sure you had your reasons for the shift in theme, and you know better than any of the rest of us what's right for your game. I'm still looking forward to it. I'd love to see the game done with both skins to see which one resonates more, but I can understand why you might not want to do that, since it'll double your art workload.

I'll definitely do both. Pirate Heroes comes first as it's more fun and more original IMHO. I felt like most of the stuff like monsters and items in the Dungeon theme were a bit too conservative. Classic, yes, but not as inspiring as colorful pirates. That being said, now that I've modded the rules to fit the pirates theme better and designed characters and monsters for that, I know that once I go back to the Dungeon theme I can make it fresh and original. I needed to come out of the mold to refresh my ideas. So yeah, no worry, Gem Dungeon will come out. Well, only if Pirate Heroes gets some good reviews and comments. Coz you know, my game design skills haven't been proven yet.

Coz you know, my game design skills haven't been proven yet. But your art skills, as you have just proven again, are beyond doubt And it's great that you want to offer us both games! That way I can enjoy the pirate one much more.

This will appeal to my map fetish in a way similar to Carcassonne. I hope.

blog right here homie http://dom2d.squarespace.com/I have to admit I was leery about the new piratical direction but you are rapidly allaying any dismays which may have reared their ugly heads in the past present or near future. Cyclops is effin' rad.

This idea, with the units and maps and stuff, perfectly fits Pirates. I can't believe I didn't notice that whole "map" thing before, haha.

It probably will. I just printed out the World Tiles and I'm having lots of fun just placing them together, creating islands and stuff. I need to balance the tile deck a bit more, but overall it's already fun! This looks so insanely great. I would love to play this.
You will! This is looking amazing. I am also pleasantly surprised with the pirate change. I thought it wouldn't be as good but it looks even better! Excellent work with the artwork! Glad you accept change! CALL OF BOOTY
YESI'm having a bit of fun with the card names. They're not that funny, but I'm having fun. Insanely cool project. Thanks Derek.
