There are lots of idioms that I think would be quite interesting to use. (found from around the web, including: http://www.sacklunch.net/Latin/H/humanumesterrare.html and http://oaks.nvg.org/ys2ra11.html )

beat to the punch
blow-by-blow
gambit
the gloves are off
low blow
Caught in the act
It is better too much than too little
Your death, my life
it does not follow (non sequitur)
"Quid pluris"="A bit more..."
prima facie: At the first glance.
pro memoria: As a memorial.
humanum est errare: To err is human.
Respice, adspice, prospice. Examine the past, examine the present, examine the future.
Saepe malum petitur, saepe bonum fugitur. Evil is often sought, good is often shunned.
Simul et dictum et factum. At the same time both said and done.
Sum, ergo edo. I am, therefore I eat.
Tempus edax rerum. Time is the devourer of things.
Varietas [or variatio] delectat. The diversity is delighting (Variety delights)
Verba movent, exempla trahunt. Words move people, examples draw/compel them.
Vescere bracis meis. Eat my shorts.
Vilius argentum est auro, virtutibus aurum. Silver is less valuable than gold, and gold than virtue.
Vita non est vivere sed valere vita est. Life is more than merely staying alive.
Explorant adversa viros. Misfortunes put men to the test.
Dura necessitas. Necessity is harsh.

I also like:

flabbergast
Overshadow
profligate
finicky
disparaging
cajole
fanatical
idiosyncratic
eclectic
(PS I used a thesaurus to discover some of these words)

this post is going to be hell to add to the theme voting poll.

Also as per the first post, stay short and relatively ambiguous so I'll remove looong things.

Hideous, my apologies for the inconvenience.  I was thinking I should narrow it down a quite a bit more. Some of those are a little long, as you said.

Here is a revised list (from 34 down to 16) :

flabbergast
overshadow
profligate
finicky
disparaging
cajole
fanatical
idiosyncratic
eclectic
low blow
beat to the punch
Your death, my life
prima facie (At the first glance)
Respice, adspice, prospice (Examine the past, examine the present, examine the future)
Tempus edax rerum (Time is the devourer of things)
Dura necessitas (Necessity is harsh)

I am excited about these MTTJs.
