I'll probably buy this, but I'm worried paying any less than $50 will cause my soul to instantly evaporate.

Got mine for a buck and some above the average - it was almost all I had in my paypal account anyways. Awesome stuff.

Good stuff.
I already have World of Goo 3 times over (off website for Linux version, on Wii and in a Steam bundle) plus Aquaria and Gish on Steam, but having those two on Linux plus two I haven't played was worth it.
Put in $30 split $20 to the devs and $5 to each of the charities. Charities are all very well, but if the devs don't get anything then there won't be a next game to sell and donate to charity through. Wink

I think in those cases Paypal is actually losing money as well.

Oh I thought the minimum was a dollar. Well, I wonder how much of the money they totalled up was swallowed by paypal.

Since they're donating to charity isn't paypal doing transactions for free? Or am I just living in a rose coloured world?

I don't really get the <$1 thing.

I can only really speak for myself, but I put about 3 years of my life into making Aquaria. I bet the other developers sunk significant time and risk into their projects as well.

The very least I'd be comfortable paying for something like this would be $10 - partly because I understand how much work goes into making games in general, but also because I'd want to support something like this so it could happen more often.

It's interesting reading through the comments about this bundle on various websites. Most people seem appreciative of it and are reasonably "generous" in their contributions. Some people give really low contributions and try, pathetically, to justify it. (OH, I only had 30 cents in my account, so... oh well) Imagine if developers had that attitude when making games. "Oh, I'm tired today... so fuck these boss graphics, I'm just going to put in a big red cube instead. SHIP IT."

I'm also curious at the psychology behind trying to justify a lame contribution in a random comments section. Is that really going to make the dudes paying 30 cents feel better about it?

It amazes me that people will drop up to $15 on a movie (in 3D, more if you include popcorn, right?), to see it once - whereas in this case you get FIVE games that you can play for many, many hours. (also, it arguably contains more unique experiences than most blockbuster movies) Suddenly $15 seems like a lot to some people. In terms of the sheer amount of entertainment per dollar, the bundle is a crazy deal.

Hm, it's not like they are doing something wrong to begin with.
You could have put in a $10 minimum and no-one would have complained.
You guys have done a great thing. I feel sad that you feel angry about it in retrospect.

It amazes me that people will drop up to $15 on a movie

Are you sure it's the same people? I would never do that.
I think it's all too easy to bunch people together like that, as "The Consumers".
Many indie-game-fans are probably half-broke penny-squeezers, just like me.

Anyway.
I went for the Hand Money Left $50 - all developer - Linux Hand Money Right deal.

I now own three licenses for World of Goo.

I was worried that my post might be taken as being "angry"... I'm not angry in any way. Smiley I'm also not trying to lump everyone into one bucket.

^ I think if you reread my post you'll see that those two things are pretty clear?

My point is just that I'm amazed at how some people react to very negatively (or disingenuously) to very positive/honest things. (and this goes for a lot of other things, not just game sales)

I'm certainly not angry though.  Gentleman
