Alex May is angry because Alex May is angry.

In other news, it seems they already raised nearly 500k. WTF

If you think of that split evenly between all 5 developers and two charities, you have roughly 70k each. If I made 70k on a game in such short notice I'd go nuts.

Unless Paypal gets a big part of that value displayed, which would be LAME.

So stop making shitty donations.

I'm thinking of paying at least 30-50. I've wanted to try Penumbra.

I actually bought the bundle 2 times , one for $10 and one for 5$.
I gave as a gift the one at $5 to my brother because he lives to far away to play with me, and because I want him to discover indie games
But now I feel bad for buying one at $5  Concerned

You're right, you should have just kept your money. Obviously that would have benefited the developers more.

i think due to the fact that it was not "pay at least amount x" but "pay what you want" the media coverage was much much much greater which translated into a much much bigger awareness...it's simply a "story" that spreads much better.

well there might be some who "bought" it for a few cents but it's part of the whole story. part of the whole deal.
more attention = more who buy it for a few cents... but also more who buy it for a reasonable price.

still i'm pretty sure the profit is much higher than it would have been with the "pay at least amount x" model.

also one thing is that you can buy it for a few cents (essentially the devs trust the players... due to this underlying trust many of the players feel honoured and act accordingly.
they have the freedom to choose...
and many choose to be good. to not disappoint the devs.
that means they become generous (and pay/donate an amount they feel good with which is at least above the average amount i think).

moreover:
many players had also some/all of the games but donated cause they think it is a good thing and therefore they support it.

Funny, the average contribution keeps rising over time. When I donated it was $7.15, 2 days ago it was $7.6, now it's $8.13.

I hope at the end they will release statistics. It would be interesting to see the breakdown of every thing.

Had $18.49 left in my PayPal account. Don't anymore. But now I've got 5 great games. Smiley

I wonder if that $1000 donator also upped Toady's April donations?

I've been wanting to play aquaria and gish! I like the other games too.

I feel guilty for only paying $5 though. I'll look for a job soon...
