Yeah, I just heard about this. Sad stuff indeed. At least his legacy will definitely outlast him. Thanks for the good times Mr. Gygax...

Yeah dungeon and dragons had a tremendous impact on our culture. For example they didn't invent fantasy, but I'm sure that fantasy stories with elves and goblins and stuff wouldn't have the same popularity today if there hadn't been this whole generation nurtured with D&D adventures. D&D had also a very important impact on the devellopment of videogames. A very iimportant but neglected impact as most people like to consider RPGs as stupid and not part of the culture.
Rest in peace Gary gygax.
BTW he was 69, he was much older than I imagined...

D&D holds a special place in my soul. This was a big downer. I loved his spot in that Futurama episode!

Thank you Mr. Gygax, for the opportunity to publicly shame my outcast self in the hallways of my high-school at lunch time by rolling little colored dice on the floor for people to step on and arguing loudly about how tall kobolds are. You will be missed.

I have a second hand personal anecdote to share about him. My cousin grew up living just down the street from Gary Gygax. He would host gaming sessions with the local teenagers back then (sometime in the 80s). My cousin said he was great fun to play with, especially as a DM, but he was a shameless cheater! Weighted dice, overruling saving throws and the like, pulling monstrously hard monsters out at a moments notice that the players had no hope of beating.
he was a central figure in fantasy AND games, we all owe a lot to him.
Somewhere right now Vin Diesel is crying.

Yeah indeed, I was surprised to find him having written the foreword of the 30th anniversary book or was it the magazine? I don't quite remember.

It was the book. Also, he has a tattoo of his first character's name on his back - Melkor.
