Art Director / 3D Artist

Giant Sparrow is a small indie developer working with a major publisher on The Unfinished Swan, a first-person painting game set in an entirely white world.

As our art director, you’ll be responsible for the full look and feel of our game, soup to nuts. We're looking for an artist who likes making games that will get inside a player’s head and let them see the world in a new way.

Requirements:

-A strong generalist -- able to take an idea from concept art to finished model (rigged, textured, animated), and work start to finish on characters, props, level art.

-Comfortable working in Maya

Pluses:

-Willing to make a mess/experiment in unusual mediums. Clay, house paint, watercolors, puppets, video, etc. Comfortable getting dirty, hacky, or quirky to get the right effect.

-Like to iterate quickly on a variety of ideas. More interested in sketching out an entire rough, yet cohesive world than polishing one aspect of that world.

-Experience with Z-Brush, Roadkill, and RealFlow would be helpful.

-Familiar with current generation console development.

-The more games you’ve shipped, the better.

About the Gig:

This is a fulltime job, and we’re working out of Santa Monica, CA. We’re a small team (we’re currently 4, plus the occasional contractor), so everyone wears a few hats. Benefits include health, dental, and a 401(k). We’ve got an indie ethos even though we’re funded by a major publisher.

The position is open now.

About Us:
Like we said, we are tiny. We all fit around a single table in a restaurant (handy for team lunches), and are looking for someone who will be a good fit with our team. We are focused on creating surreal, novel, and otherwise unusual experiences and are looking for someone who wants to be a part of that.

Please send resumes/inquiries to [email protected], along with any applicable links to your portfolio or sample work.
