Hi, this is my currently project - it's about racing a little monster truck around a level in the shortest time possible. I'm not really sure where it's going at the moment, but there is quite a lot left on the plan.
http://www.groovyrobot.com(
direct webstart if you already have java)
You can currently race around, collect the stars and finish the tracks. Your best time is recorded for each level - giving you a ghost car to race against. Online scores are also kept. In addition you can play online against other people, though right now there is little interaction between players so online play is a bit empty of joy.
Controls:
Left/Right Cursor - drive the truck when you're on the ground, release and press against in mid-air to tilt
Ctrl - Jump
R - restart level (you might need this quite a bit initially)
Space - Flip the trucks direction
1-5 - Player configured taunts (online only)
Enter - Enter chat (online only)
It's written in Java so you'll need to get
a Java VM. Other than that something around:
1.6Ghz, 512mb, OpenGL 1.1 graphics card
Should be alright to play it. The game should be compatible with Windows, OSX and Linux - via the webstart link is most likely to work. However, there is an installer/updater in a early form if you prefer that sort of thing (eventually it'll probably be a executable everywhere). I'd be interested in feedback and where it didn't want to work.
In addition I'm looking for ways to make the game more engaging as both a single player and online experience. Also, if anyone has any ideas how to make it pay for my lunch that'd be nice to.
What's currently broken:
- You might not get sound/music on some Linux variants
- It's remarkably unforgiving
- Graphics arn't up to much
- No known crash/fail bugs
- Fullscreen mode is pretty new, so might break somewhere.
Configuration files, trucks skins and levels are all stored in your home directory in a sub-director called ".mootox" in case you want to prod around.
Feedback appreciated on anything but especially:
- Faults/Failures/Bugs
- Ideas for enhancing single player mode
- Ideas for enhancing online games
- Control systems
- Missing features
Thanks,
Kev
