If you can't have Coregasm, which you should, then how about Coreganism?

Coreganism sounds cool Smiley Corevolution would be possible, too. But maybe something without "core" in it? No more ideas?

Sounds interesting.  Keep at it, guys!

Having one resource is hard, but it can work.  I hope you can pull it off well.

What's the pace of this game?  Is it fast-paced?  Do you have a target play time for one game?  How does the energy resource work?

It's quite normal-paced. Units have a specific cool down time which starts after each action (moving, attack enemy, ...). This means you can't just take one unit and rush to the enemy - it slows down the game pace a bit, but makes each and every action important.
We can't give a target play time for now, but I guess it will be 15-20 minutes per round (that's just my current estimation!).
Energy is leeched out of the cells and added to the player's amount of energy. This energy is needed for all actions.

Well... the name "Coreganism" seems to go for gold... somehow. :D

We didn't actually playtest it extensively yet. Anyway, we're aiming at some 10-20 minutes playtime - so it's probably going to be rather fast paced. Rather fast-paced in a way of "short games!" than in a way of "don't blink now!". :D

I don't want to leak too much now. Wink Energy will do what ressources in RTS are basically ment to do: Stop ridiculous expansion. It's interwoven with other gameplay elements in a quite surprising and unusual way. There aren't going to be "farming-units" like in Starcraft or Command&Conquer. It's more like:
You have to slow down your expansion in an intelligent way in order to provide enough energy for upcoming battles. (which need lots of energy)
Evolving your units too quickly will result in a lack of energy. Stacking up too much energy is useless without good ways to burn it.

By the way: Our system is also meant to prevent well known RTS-issues:
-rushing: Small groups of units are normally absolutely useless against an enemy
          base.
-camping/passive play: Infrastructure needs energy. Energy-sources run out
quickly. Aquiring energy is connected with the evolving
of units. Unbalanced playstyle leads to unbalanced unit-
combinations. With the right technique, groups of
identical enemy units can be taken out easily. The
players always have to stay active to keep up a
                       cycle. (details later)

Bah... so much information. Tongue I better stop right now.

edit: Hehe, that responses appeared simultaneously... Even more leaked information. >.< At least you have to puzzle a bit to find out the real facts. Tongue

It's awesome....Adventures of the Sushi 1942, Subatomic Goblin Tribe or Paranoid Hovercraft of Death just makes my head explode into pieces, thanks a lot!:)

As for the game, I really like the idea behind it, and I will make sure to play it, although I would like to ask if the game map will be 2D or 3D?

Also,'Coreganism' doesn't sound bad.

What do you mean with "game map"? The game is in 3D, but there is only one "layer", which means all cells (fields) are at the same height, if you mean that.

By the way, didn't you know the amazing VGNG contest? http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?board=9.0 Enjoy! Smiley

Sorry if I made myself unclear, but thanks that answered my question anyways. Yes, I was asking if the 2D->3D transition also concerned the important game map dimensions (multiple layers or outright full 3D).

I wonder though if the gfx quality didn't set you back guys? I mean, if you had a core mechanics-working versiona already, then why redoing it? I am not complaining, just wondering...

Well, first of all I discovered that the game just didn't look all that amazing in 2D. It was by the way developed by another team. (which included me)
Next, the Rules of the game were changed drasticly after the 2D-pre-alpha was developed. It's much easier to understand. More... fast-forward now.
When I set up my new team it was decided that it's just easier and better to build a completely new game. We were actually able to use the old code to our advantage since it had been commented very well by the former programmer.
I hope this serves an answer to your question. Smiley

Yes. The networking-prealpha-developer-version is bound to be finished soon! So playing over the net becomes pretty much possible.
Right now the graphical assets (3d, 2d, everything) are mostly placeholders.

What made our stream of information to the "outside" stop was the artist's computer dieing. After it died he bought a new, shiny (~2000$) one. And on the first day of usage the power supply-thingy burned down.   Undecided
Anyway... he just got back to work 2 days ago and has already worked over some concepts. You will see new graphical samples soon!

Well, I just checked the URL today and it worked. Maybe you should just try again. Smiley
