Hey guys! I've always been interested in the wonderful world of marketing and video games ad usualy features crazy but fun concepts. So, why don't you guys show your favorite commercials? Ok, so lemme start off with the evolution that leads to my favorite commercials. At first, there wa sthe nes and games were aimed for kids of all ages. None-threatning please! Then, with the Sega Vs Nintendo war starting, things got a bit cooler, tougher, weirder, rougher, realistic... Realistic? Wtf? Then, when the war was at its highest point, Super mario world 2: Yoshi's island commercials made their entrance. Can you spot the difference between the target audience of the two markets? Japan UsaGenesis commercials were always special, specially with their "SEGA" catchphrase... SNES vs GenesisBut there are better example than this last commercial... Your turn!

Hi! Well... as a kid it of course was absolutely exciting to see TV-adds. That was rare back in the day. And actually still is, to a certain degree... Anyway: There are three commecials I really like: PS3 - The European/British TV-spots: http://youtube.com/watch?v=u6VNFZMDCaELost Odyssey, TV-spot: http://youtube.com/watch?v=LrCNKX_NTfsI like the first two especially because they are... actually art. And Sony was brave to produce them. Of course 95% of the gamers (especially those who would ever buy a PS3 just because of the mass-media-marketing) reacted absolutely negatively. That's like placing some pumpkins into a movie theatre for art films. Anyway, I like the way they interprete the whole gaming culture and he industry itself. They could've showed some GT5/FFXIII/whatever-footage but they produced this instead. I love it! I like the Lost Odyssey TV-spot mostly because of it's music and how the game-footage matches to it. They could've taken some generic orchestral score with generic choire-climax at the end but they chose 60s-rock instead. Brilliant. (I'm getting shivers on my back every time I watch the video. ) BaronCid

I love Romero's Japanese commercials (
|
) for Resident Evil 2, although that probably says more about how much of a loser I am than how good the ads are.

Whoa, we're talking about Zelda commercials, and nobody mentioned this:
Shame on us... Nothing can beat the synchro dancing.

Whoah fucking there. Had I not known the PS3, those ads would have made me buy it no matter what. Those are the most awesome videogame commercials I have ever seen. I wish the target audience weren't so nerdy so we could have this kind of shit far more often.

How is it that I've gone my entire life without seeing this until now? This has got to be the greatest commercial ever made.

That one is the best. My friends Harlock and Gilbert actually got part way through filming a commercial based on that Pole Position commercial (Gilbert's an director) -- it was going to be a commercial for their indie RPG Horgoth; however neither the game nor the commercial were finished and are both kind of in limbo right now...

and Joust are very good, too. If only every commercial for anything ended exactly like this Joust one.

BURGER TIMEAtari made the best commercials. -- Truly a work of genius. E.T. The spinning cartridge in this version symbolizes the hundreds of thousands of unsold carts Atari buried in a landfill. This all reminded me of the recent blog memoirs of the Atari programmer hired to do the home console license of Donkey Kong. A Great read, if you're interested I couldn't find the Atari 800 commercial for Donkey Kong, just Donkey Kong, just the VCS/Coleco/Intellevision version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ePUeCFOMTMAnd who can forget Jack Black as Pitfall Harry?

Basically *all* the Legend of Zelda ads are insane. I collected a few of them a while ago here. (Make sure you see the last one, in particular )
