EA Sport - Rock, Paper, Scissors 2010 - The best RPS game simulator in the world.

I will be developing this game whenever I can, hopefully I will finish it. To develop it I will be using my own game framework called Pig, it is currently still in early development but I will add the parts I need as I go along.

Random ideas for game
The game would be played as if it was a real professional sport. You would start at the bottom division and slow rank up with better and better players (I wont be coding a complex AI - It will just be random). Each season will consist of 40 matches and probably several different cups. Each league table will consist of 20 players and the scoring system will be just like football (Win - 3, Draw - 1, Lose - None).

So now I am free of commitments (had work experience and a weekend break), I guess it is time to start working on this. I have a 7 days until I go away again for 4 days. Then I will have some time after that to hopefully finish this game. So in the meantime I am going to be simplifying the game idea to try and get most of it running by the time I leave. Then at least I will have a demo and the only thing left will be fixing, polishing and general improvement.

The game will be displayed in x2 or x4 but for now, here is a x1 mock-up of the league display.

The font needs changing for sure. That way it can be smaller and actually be suitable for 2 or 4 times display. If anyone has a cool 4x4 or 4x5 or something like that font please tell me! The colour scheme might need a rework as well.

It would be great if you really ran with the "EA Sports" angle -- multiple splash screens when the game loads, blaring rap/rock on all the menu screens, ridiculous in-game advertising, etc.

And you expected anything less? The game will be full of typical EA features - splash screens, bad music, in-game adverts, EA logos anywhere it will fit, overly complex sport gaming.

Daily Dev Update - 06/07/10

I looked at the code base for Pig (my game framework), and realised that I had a hell of a lot to do before I could get it into a usable state. So I used half of the hours I had available today making it so that it was usable, and testing that system. It's all working well, minus some vitals and sound (soon to come when I have less pressing matters). Here is a screen shot of the Pig splash screen :

It fades in slowly, it is very cool. I am going to have a few more images fade in, such as the EA logo, Sponsors - RPS UK, PaperRocks, RandomScissors, RPSMAX. These will all come on the screen at once with their logos - the logos themselves will appear as ads in the background of the playing stadium.

I've also decided to change the art style from a retro 4x look and instead try and make it as "realistic" as possible, with true EA looking menus, graphics and the all famous "music notifier". Time to get back to work, I'll be working on getting the start menu running and also the menu (with only one button, play) and finally the game. If I get time I will add stats to the players, league tables (this is a maybe) and competitions.

Competitions will be very simple and consist of you having to win a certain amount of games in a row to win the cup/sheild/medal.

I'd advise you not to use the EA logo directly and make some like a mock/parody version of it. Just to cover our asses.

Also, you're working on a Pygame framework?

I will use a parody of the EA logo, sorry I forgot to mention that! And this is my own game framework, built on top of the Pygame framework. It cuts down on the code I need to write!

I haven't done much in a few days because I've been pretty busy busy busy but hopefully I'll get a few hours in and finish some stuff up.
