Grand Theft Auto: Mos Eisley
http://www.somethingawful.com/d/photoshop-phriday/video-game-wishes.php?page=5Link(s):It's not finished quite yet, relax! How It Will Play:Basically, the original top-down 2D Grand Theft Auto games, but the settings changed to Mos Eisley (with appropriate weaponry, vehicles, etc.) It won't be the same scope as those games, obviously, but it'll be good enough to play for a bit. I'll be avoiding much storyline, and instead will focus on having a large-ish environment to traverse.

Here's hoping. I'll be making it in Flash, to save time on graphics and the like, though it's been a while since I've used ActionScript, so I'll be doing it in AS2. I'm allowed to make it in Flash... right?

Of course, any medium of a game is acceptable.

Got some basics down so far, including movement, rotation, and entering buildings. I'll be working on vehicles and the like later tonight. I'm thinking having about 4 different variations of the speeder bike, as well as other ground vehicles. Extremely early screenshot (excuse the programmer art): I'll also be using this for reference when it comes to creating the map: http://www.thetopdraw.com/images/3.2_science_fiction/Mos_Eisley.jpg

I've yet to make a final choice on the movement... Several options: - Player can be turned with the keyboard and move forward, think RE like controls.
- Player always moves towards where the mouse is pointed, turned in that direction
- Players rotation is always static except for when shooting or in a vehicle, and moves around like any normal game with the keyboard
- Player always looks towards the mouse, but moves in static directions with the keyboard
Any ideas? May whip out the PS1 just to see what the originals were like. I can't remember much.

This one. Seconded. Also, I have Cantina theme stuck in my head right now thanks to you.

My apologies Still though, that song will probably be the background music for the game, or possibly just inside bars.

Working on creating the 2.5D environment trick of the original GTA (at least, I think that was a trick... not entirely sure if that game was 2D or 3D, or a mix of both), where the buildings sort of pop-out of the map to show depth, and you can see their sides depending on what angle you're at and distance.

Sorry guys, but it looks like I'll have to cancel this project due to personal reasons - that and I'd probably not be able to get it done for the deadline. I may pick it up in the future for a bit of fun, but it's unlikely it'll be anytime soon. Best wishes, and good luck to the other contestants
