The Ninth Rune

Description

The Ninth Rune is a 1987 roguelike/RPG game published by Aval Corporation and developed by PDF. Taking place in a fantastic world bearing similarities to Tolkien's Middle Earth, the player takes on the role of a completely randomly generated character and investigates the secret behind the mysterious 'Ninth Rune'. The Ninth Rune was the first roguelike to be played solely using a mouse.

Released in the UK the same week as Dungeon Master and, perhaps, suffering from an unmemorable name and a challenging user interface, The Ninth Rune was not a commercial success. However, it has since become a cult game and, with the release of its source code in the July of 2010, has gained a strong modding community.
