Play SpaceGate at Newgrounds.

Play SpaceGate at Odo Games.

SpaceGate is a vertical scrolling shoot-em-up, inspired by the NES era of shooters such as Astro Warrior and bullet hell games like Xenon 2 and Cave.

Self Destruct
and some other games such as Arcanacra also inspired this game.

Lots of bullets, pixels, and an Alien race.  Pretty explosive stuff, I hope.

The game has also been featured on 8bitrocket.  Review of SpaceGate.  Where I wrote a tutorial for the enemy movement:

More info on the game can be found here.

The engine is bespoke and I am doing final tests on the explosion effect, side shot, difficulty modes and procedural survival mode.

Thanks. Without giving too much away..

Difficulty modes have been worked on as I've been playtesting a lot.

The reasons that made me want to put the difficulty selection screen after you click newgame instead of main menu options:

-It is not obvious to change this from options
-Options are fine as just volume controls
-Procedural mode will definately benefit from the difficulty selection before each new game

Here is how it looks now:

[edit] I just added survival mode with randomly generated aliens and slowly increasing level of pace.  It has 4 way movement and plays more like Robotron or Gamma Bros.

Survival mode controls

Type A: Arrow keys to move and WASD to aim
Type B: Mouse to move and arrow keys to aim

The attention to detail is impressive. I like how you've managed the feel of a Xevious- or Zanac-style game without the annoying artifacts of that era (huge hitboxes, monotonous enemy patterns).

Thanks to everyone from Tigs who has tried my game/been supportive of it!

Space Gate was lucky enough to reach an awesome score on Newgrounds, and is still in the running for a weekly prize on Kongregate (hint hint..)  Beg

The top score is 2,000,000,000 which must have taken around 10 hours.

Good times!
