I always figured voting for yourself was a given. Me too. It is common practice in political elections, where you are supposed to vote for your own party. I see no reason why it would be wrong to vote for yourself, if you think your game is good enough. This is why there should be a rule. Some people will think, "Voting for your own entry is clearly biased. Nobody would ever do that, and neither will I!" Others will think, "Voting for your own entry is expected. If I don't do it, everyone else will and I'll come out behind." Creating a rule bypasses these situations and allows people to vote honestly.

I'm still not convinced. If people are insecure enough to think their game has no chance if they don't vote for themselves, let them.
Again, no prizes are involved, so I say that you guys should stop thinking so hard into it.

But why not at least say in the first post that voting for yourself is frowned upon? It's obvious by your language that you don't approve of it.

I don't approve it, personally, but I also don't care enough about it to force people.

I guess what I'm trying to say is this. It doesn't really matter whether voting for your own game is encouraged or not. All that matters is that it's consistent between different people.
But, whatever. It's not a huge issue.

What Souliard said.
It just feels unfair to look down at people, who can't possibly know they are doing something wrong. But I think it would be quite sufficient to simply add a small "please don't", to establish a common etiquette.

It is possible to view the results without voting? I don't think we can view the results even after voting. Which is as it should be, IMO. Melly, you should put a suggestion to not vote for yourself in the first post, just so everyone's on the same page here.

post-vote it only shows what you've voted for, doesn't show results - those will be after it closes I suspect (which is good - keeps it from influencing people)

Yeah, results will show once the poll is over. It also keeps people guessing.
Alright, I'll add a note on the first post about common voting etiquette.

Not had a chance to play them all but I've voted on 7 great games, which is good enough for me.

There's still plenty of time, and anyone can change votes, so please, if you haven't played all the games yet, try to do so. You can be surprised with what you find.

Plus, with the availability of the torrent, grabbing the games just takes a few minutes.

I tried to provide feedback for every game before I voted. Unfortunately, I didn't have time to type up all my thoughts, but I did have time to play every game that ran on my computer. If I didn't get a chance to provide feedback for your game, I apologize. If you want it now, you can PM me.
There were a lot of interesting games in this competition. I'm looking forward to seeing the results.
