Theres No Place Like Homeless
a platformer/stealthy game which follows the Bum's escape from Somewhere City
in Somewhere City, homeless people are being captured and tooken to a facility
the Bum does not want to go to this facility so you must guide him out of the city

the game has been in development for a good few months now.
brian, the programmer (im the graphics guy see) is just putting the
finishing touches on the map editor he has made.

we plan to have the game include:

at least 4 city based environments, each with at least 3 levels.

  • back alleys
  • city streets
  • harbor
  • construction site
(check them out here - http://supercuriosityblog.blogspot.com/p/theres-no-place-like-homeless.html)

achievements, high scores (and Game Center support for iPhone)

there will be an online high score board, but im not sure if we can get achievements to show online though. there will also be about 50 collectable items scattered across the levels ranging from a used tire to a umbrella!

level editor

not sure if this will be available from the get go but i want a user friendly level editor and maybe level sharing abilities (accessable from in-game)!
- for the moment, we're not going to include this.

While the programmers been ironing out some bugs, I've had a rethink on the Bum and modified what he looks like... spruced him up a bit really. Have a looksie.

I do think somethings a bit off with the climbing animation but i cant seem to put my finger on it.. hmm, oh well. I'll get the programmer (maverick) on here so he can update you with programmy stuff.

To me at least, he looks more like he's swimming than climbing.

Sounds like a pretty cool game!  I also agree that he kinda looks like he's swimming... I'd put the legs closer together, he seems a bit sprawled out, in my opinion.

Okay so I got the interface nailed down, I think its quite decent... might adjust where the lives are at since it seems to clash with the background at the moment. There will also be a place up near the level title which shows collectables in the level.

The scene isn't final though, just sorta for display purposes only!

I should have a video of the game very shortly :D

So after a few months of developing the editor and having it fuck up for us so many times, we've decided to use Tiled Map Editor (http://www.mapeditor.org/) - can anyone say if this is a good choice. It seems great, object properties and multiple layers.

On a plus note, almost all graphics are done... just coding needs to be nailed down now. We've also had to drop the in-game level editor for the moment, though we might add it later on. We will still have our Online Leaderboards though for scores.

So progress is well, we managed to get another guy help us out with AI coding and the like so we should have a video very soon - and hopefully a playable demo for you guys to test out :D

In the mean time I'd like to show you a mockup of a new level design I've been working on - the harbor!!
