Hi guys,

I'm planning on creating a roguelike game.

Although I do know how to code, I would like to know if there are any programs that could help in the creation of a roguelike. Something like Construct or GameMaker but created just for roguelikes.

Or maybe even libraries.

Just wondering if there are any.

Thanks!

One cool thing about libtcod is that it has bindings for many languages. It also has a really active community so you see a lot of different things being done; for example, though it was originally designed as strictly an ascii library, recently people have demoed support for tiles with SDL.

The Roguebasin wiki is another great resource to find libraries and engines btw. For example, there are several curses implementations you could use listed there, not to mention more extensive windowing libraries, and large RLs available for modding.

I found this article very helpful for making a Roguelike:

This article though will only distract you from getting your Roguelike finished:

I think T-Engine is aiming to be something like the imaginary "Roguelike Maker" - you make modules for it that have all of the data, and it acts as an intepreter and an engine.
