Madk, make your own thread, then people won't be so confused.
Let me know when you do and I'll link to it.

Holy hell Melly! I didnt see this. Thats why you said you were "intrigued by the asciiness" when you saw my versus entry was ascii. That first image in the OP is a masterpeice! I also made an ascii editor last year. I started it in April/May but left it at Version.0 because it was initially for this game which is no longer ascii. The problem was screen update speed using standard output functions and artifacts on the screen in vista and WIN7. It was really too bad and I almost shed a tear when the verdict was to skip ascii mode Anyway as you can see I'm not much of an ascii artist, more like a lo-res pixel artist, because I mostly use the char219 character. Goodluck with the Paint program and keep dev'ing it if you have the time. Keep the Ascii banner High!!! Later

I could give you the source code to WEPaint if you wanted.

Cheers, but I think I already have the source (WEPaint.bmx) from an earlier download link you posted. Unfortunately I can't do much with blitzmax code, and there's another program http://code.google.com/p/ascii-paint/ which I may use instead if Melly doesn't appear in the next couple of weeks. B

He shows up on steam every now and then. I'll try and remember to bring this up next time I see him on.

Just to add to the proliferation of Ascii art programs, here's one I've been working on (heavily inspired by melly's program). I reworked the gui quite a bit, and added a number of features like copy/paste, a grid, resize, etc. Link to TIG thread-B

Figured I'd mention that I was inspired by all of the beautiful artwork on this thread to create the character portraits for The Adventurer's Guild 7-day roguelike, using ASCIIPaint: Developed in Flash and playable in the browser over at: http://www.nolithius.com/guildThe game is also drawn with the 8x8 bitmap tileset from ASCIIPaint, and uses the same color palette. Cheers!
