Yeah, Card Sagas Wars is pretty fucking amazing. I'm envious of their animation skills

@Jared so true! I had not played FATCAT before, am going to now. Tiny Castle is so grand, in game design as well as art...

Basically if Zelda was a Western with some Mother'ish graphics.

EDIT: Link to the spriters resource page for high quality sprites from the game.

Pulseman has some awesome pixel art:

The game was developped by Game Freak, and was a Japan-exclusive Mega Drive/Genesis title until 2009 when it was released on the Virtual Console.

Yesss, Pulseman is great. Game Freak should really do more original games rather than just Pokémon. They can clearly do amazing things if they get the freedom to do so (also see Drill Dozer).

It's great to be able to tell the developer of a game just by looking at pictures. Game Freak have such a great art style, imo.

With that said, I've never played Pulseman, or even looked at any screenshots before today, but after seeing it's a Game Freak game, I'll definitely have to try it out.

Wow, that's cool. You don't see too many games with dithering like that.

This little man in Cave Story. I love him and all of the other graphics in this game.

Street Fighter 3 as well. Smiley

EGA, CGA art, and some comparisons. The games from this era are often multiplatform and as such have to translate their art across a huge range of graphics capability.

20,000 Leagues under the Sea

Captain Blood

Curse of the Azure Bonds

Champions of Krynn ("sequel" to Azure in terms of engine and production time, but unrelated setting and story)

Hostages (aka Rescue: The Embassy Mission)

CGA

Atari ST

NES

The Hunt For Red October

Amiga

Sword of the Samurai

Speedball

Ultima V

I really like how all the fighting games on the Neo Geo Pocket Color look, especially the NGPC version of The Last Blade. They aren't as amazing as the sprites on the actual Neo Geo, but I think the Chibi style is cool beans.

Oh yeah, all those NGPC fighting games are pretty sweet. I should try to find some screenshots of the NGPC version of SNK vs Capcom.

In the meantime, Beyond Oasis looks fantastic with its super clean manga style graphics:
