Liberty City, AGAIN?!

Dammit, I was hoping for Hong Kong.  And an "urban" asian lead who's not all about the kung fu and shit.

You know, seeing as how games made by asians don't even have asian leads:

(Look guys, it's the Aryan Nation!)

Ah well. Sad

Never was a fan of the GTA games. Just don't appeal to me. Looks good tho (in a realistic way, but I think games should be less realistic if anything).

On another note, how hard can it be to get a proper eastern European voiceactor and not use some American guy making a bad impression?

I've always wanted to see a far-future GTA game with Buck Rogers style rocket-hover-cars and foul mouthed robots going around offering hits of illegal software.

i was checking out the GAF at the moment of release.
the casual racism there was amaziiing.

people arguig that he's arab and that GTA IV is gonna be GTA:9/11
despite tons of people (arabs and slavics) ALL agreeing that the dude is obviously not arab but some eastern european mobster of sorts.

a bunch of people, completely in denial kept hoping the guy would be arab just for added controversy.

altho i would have been blown away if rockstar had such gigantic balls as to do that.

overall the game looks good but lacks style from what we'seen.
granted we havent seen much. but still. looks kind of drab.

dig the copolla.

The next game should star a grumpy game developer from Montreal, I think.

One day Grand Theft Auto will entirely obsolete action cinema.  Interactive Fiction will mature, and plots and goals will arise dynamically, generated within the simulation.

lol?

I wish obsolete was a verb.

That and the sentiment is completely untrue. No matter what, I will always enjoy sitting on my ass while watching other people do awesome things. It is just a completely different experience than playing a videogame.

I agree, but I do hope that we get to grips with emergent narrative eventually. I must say that I see hints of it already in games like Civ and Rome Total war, probably more than in the GTA series. Civ actually models characters (simple likes/dislikes), so you have emergent stories based on that. GTA only models an environment and whether or not a gang or the authorities tolerate you. You only make stories about cars and guns and jumping and blowing stuff up.

...tell a lie - you've got girlfriends in GTA:SA. It's just that all those minigames in SA were rubbish producer-minded boring unfun filler.

More social modelling in games, I say! That'll at least help bring about more interesting emergent stories. Bring on storytron.

There were equal parts snark and truth in my statement.

You only make stories about cars and guns and jumping and blowing stuff up.

Ergo:

One day Grand Theft Auto will entirely obsolete action cinema.

QED.

here's a theory.

GTA IV is gonna be like GTA 1.

in the very first frame of the trailer, the train shot, on the left, there is a small sign that says "visit vice city, 300$".

the original GTA (the 2d one) had all 3 main cities in it. Liberty, Vice and one from SA...

they showed us LC because thats obviously where the game start but i wouldnt be supprised AT ALL if vice city and los santos would be in there.

rockstar knew what they were doing. they knew people were gonna overanalyse the hell out of this trailer, and they put a huge hint in right at the begining.

in some time theyll reveal that and the internet is gonna assplode some more.

and coming 2010, GTA V: Montreal.
