Falling block avoidance game. Jump from blocks and climb, avoiding the falling volcano debris. Try to reach safety.

You can play a demo at my website if you'd like, after your eyes stop bleeding:
http://www.stukosgame.com/

(Might not work in IE, haven't really tested it. Works alright in Firefox, Chrome, and Safari.)

I saw The Incident a few weeks ago, when I had made about as much progress as is in the demo, but now I'm thinking that maybe I should finish it anyway. I don't know.

I'll post updates to this devlog.

Funny note.

If you use the up button to jump, you can still use the space button to jump after. You can not double jump if you use space to initiate the jump, or the up button at the top of a jump

Either way you switch it will do a double jump.

I like the way the sprite bobs it's head; it looks like he's dancing to the bgm.

Is there any design-related reason why the jump in this game is so floaty?

Really nice art style you have going there. Mayhaps a bit too Dino Run-ish though.

I see. Unusual. But hey, it works.

No reason I guess. I thought it felt alright. I wanted the player to have a lot of control in the air since they are going to be jumping quite a bit, and trying to react to falling blocks. I'll play around with the values I used and see if I can make it less floaty.

Thanks for the feedback.

Mayhaps, yeah. That game is great.

One more niggle- why can't the player double jump by double tapping the same key as opposed to the spacebar then the up key/vice versa?

Note: I'm using IE to play this.

It would be easy to do. I guess I feel like you'd be more engaged if you had to use both hands to be any good at it. I'll think about it though, for sure.

The problem is that it's very unintuitive, which counteracts the engagement.
