Ace McFly Vs The Communist Nazis (working title) is a top down shmup (bullet hell?) set in an alternate history 18XX 19XX where Austro-Hungary has become a Socialist state and has been amassing it's armies to attack the Free World (tm). You, Ace McFly, the Free World's (tm) best pilot are sent behind enemy lines to take down the Austro-Hungarian war machine from the inside. It's all very somewhat steampunk-y and very, very lighthearted. The gameplay will be bare-boned shmup fun. My goal here is to make a challenging, but somewhat forgiving game. Here's a list of features because I can't write coherently: - 3-5 worlds
- Each world has 3 levels
- Each level has a boss
- You have a certain amount of lives to beat the level without having to restart it from the beginning
- No stores or XP, just power-ups you can pick up during gameplay
- Beating the game unlocks Boss Rush mode
I NEED YOUR HELP THOUGHI currently don't have a programmer, so hit me up if you know how to code in Flash. Doesn't matter which version of AS you use. dustin is doing the coding. We'll need a musician down the line too. kidfarthing is doing the music! - I could use some help coming up with different enemy/boss designs too. Don't bother mentioning zeppelins, though. Those are in.
Here are some of the first enemy designs and animations: http://www.newgrounds.com/dump/item/603b36ae632dbf74ca22400c0742f8f0And here's a quickly made mock-up: Aaaaand, I think that's it.

How about a setting in the 1920s? Then you'd get less steampunk, more Austrian socialism, more aeroplanes, and more boss battles against Freud, Schoenberg and Godel?

Not really aiming for historical accuracy here, but it's not a bad idea. I suppose setting it in the 20th century would make more sense from a technological and political standpoint. I just randomly used 18XX because, to me, that evokes steampunk.

It's like Asteroids, where the screen wraps around. Being on the opposite end of the spectrum means they're right next to each other! But yeah, the game looks and sounds pretty cool. If you're looking for bosses, what about a zeppelin the Heavy Gustaf? Or, really, any of the crazy weapons invented by the Communists or Nazis that proved to have little effect on the war(s). Here's a good source for some.

The scenario was written by an american I'm from Latvia, a post-Soviet state. But yeah, the game looks and sounds pretty cool. If you're looking for bosses, what about a zeppelin the Heavy Gustaf? Or, really, any of the crazy weapons invented by the Communists or Nazis that proved to have little effect on the war(s). Here's a good source for some. Woah, some of those are pretty cool. I'll definitely use some of the designs. Thanks!

Even so, there's a lot of kids out there that'll be playing your game that won't know any better, and you're feeding them misinforma-
What the fuck am I babbling about.
The game looks pretty sweet aesthetically, by the way.

I'll put in a disclaimer at the start. Anyway, thanks. My approach to designing enemies:1)Draw normal aircraft. b)Put guns everywhere.

I will now that I GOT A CODER. Yup, looks like dustin is doing the coding. Haven't really been working too much on the game this weekend. Here are two new enemies inspired by experimental Nazi aircraft. I'm quickly losing the steampunk influence, instead opting for a mix of WWI and WWII tech. Nazis had designed a stealth plane.
