If I were to make some "On hold" type logos, should it be a old style red phone jingling with "On Hold" or a lit stove burner labled "Backburner" (Might be more difficult due to the length of "Backburner")?
'Paused' would be more game related.

Isn't "paused" just another word for "cancelled". A button like that would be fairly easy to make though.

'Paused' would be more game related. Yeah, but more people seem to say "This project's on hold" or like I did with Super Mafia Dudes "I put this project on the backburner" than they do "I paused development for this"

I don't think that should be a factor. We have an RIP icon and I've never heard any one say "I've RIP'ed this project". By your logic it should read 'Cancelled', 'Dropped', or 'Binned'. But whatever, it doesn't bother me either way.

My projects will permanently be at 90% done. That last 10% is IMPOSSIBLE to finish because there is always one more thing to do.

Random questions about both the icon and really more devlog moderation policy...
I've got a game that'll be done and released on one platform, but then I'll still be working on it for the others.
AND, it is an episode based game, so I plan to keep devlogging while I work on future episodes after release.
So... should I mark my devlog as All Done! ... even though I'm going to keep working and devlogging?
Maybe I should just avoid the % based icons entirely? heh

I'm not really an art guy, so I'd rather not attempt to build some icons myself, but I'm not sure whether the current set of Devlog icons really lives up to its full potential. Some thoughts on the Devlog iconset in general: - In my experience, neither me nor 80% of other hobbyist game developers are able to accurately state the progress of their project. The existing progress bars will potentially end up being much more inaccurate than their 10% granularity suggests. Why not replace them with a more general progress description? Example suggestion: Concept, First Steps, Full On, Almost There, Done. RIP and Paused would fit in there as well!
- As an alternative to stating progress, what about easily distinguishable genre icons? Something like Action, Adventure, Roleplay, Strategy, Simulation, Software, Experimental, etc. would allow developers to send a brief message to potential readers before even opening their Devlog thread. To new guys like me, the sheer amount of Devlogs makes it kind of hard to decide which ones are interesting to me. Genre icons would help.
- Aside from genres, what about platform icons? I'd probably prefer genres, but hey, why not.
Just some ideas.

I don't think genre will work as mixing them is all the rage now + variants + new genre

I think, even if there is rampant genre mix & match, covering the normal genres and some of the more common mashups would be better than just a throwaway percentage that usually moves very slowly. Hell, why not keep the percentages and just add in the other options? Someone would have to draw them, someone would have to OK them, and someone else would have to put them in, though... not very likely, I know. Also, I feel like the RIP logo on this thread isn't helping matters

It's helping it's signaling the project you were following is terminated - instead of wondering why there wasn't any progress OR - the post where the author says he is giving up is lost in countless page of a community who don't know what let it go mean.

Right, keep the RIP symbol. Even the percentages as an alternative, I guess, but then you have to rely on the thread title itself to say the genre. A lot of threads do this already: "Game Name [Rhythm RPG Beat-Em-Up]". It's so common because it's very useful info for people browsing. More useful than percentages, imo.
