SATISFACTION!

So, RUINS is on slow-mo while assignments and busy and such nonsense.
But just for lulz I decided to try a simple little instagame, in the vein of Super Crate Box.

I was looking to make it:
Simple to pick up and retry (inspired by a dozen flash games)
Tough but fair (inspired by SCB)
Instantly rewarding (inspired by Peggle)

And so I am making SATISFACTION!
which is a game about scoring really damn high just for being you.  Beer!
It is already about 30% done. The engine is super simple, graphics will be the hardest part.

It will be a straightforward little combat game, platform-y, a bit of dodge-em-up styles, in an infinitely scrolling world, and you will receive score for EVERYTHING you do in quick succession.
BIG SCORES! BIG COMBOS! FLAILING AWAY AT YOUR KEYBOARD LIKE A BOSS!

So here is a sample list of things that give you score:
Holding left, holding right, jumping left, jumping right, jumping continuously, jumping over enemies, jumping under enemies, hovering next to an enemy, falling next to an enemy, jumping in place, alternating between left and right really fast, smashing enemies, smashing multiple enemies, smashing successive enemies, smashing past enemies without hitting them, general key-mashing speed, and more.
And each that you do in rapid succession ups your combo count!
The trick is, enemies keep coming and you have to make yourself vulnerable in order to bank your current score.

If you have any ideas for things that would be feasible, please share!
Think a basic platforming environment with (currently) no vertical scrolling, just horizontal.

All my graphics right now are placeholders, as graphics are entirely secondary, but I'll be looking to give it a crazy style so graphics updates will abound. I may consider digging up an artist to help. We'll see.

Will likely change the name to something more searchable and less unambiguously erotic. Name ideas are more than welcome.

I will be looking for testers too, but not until it's a bit more polished. I'll keep everyone posted.

I may also port it to flash, and make moneys or something! Or just show it off so people love me forever.

Anyway, HYPE HYPE HYPE!

See you soon.  Hand Thumbs Up Left Tiger

I NEEDS THE HELP.
It's just a whitespace with a placeholder sprite and some text that does nothing.

[done. thanks!]

All I want someone to do, is tell me what the BLACK font on the left looks like. Whether it is some microsoft font or if it is like the font at the top (albeit less squished).

Looks like a generic Microsoft-y font to me.

Love the concept! I'll definitely keep an eye on this!

Generic Microsoft font here as well. If it's at all relevant, I'm running Windows 7 x64.

Buried in essays, and still I find time to bang my head against this.
Nothing new graphically, but another test of the font loading plugin, this time done properly (hopefully.)

If anyone could just give this a look, it would be fantastiche. Again the problem is the black text left middle. The font SHOULD look like the red font at the top (but less squished) and NOT like a basic windows font.

If this doesn't work, then I can begin development wholesale because I can finally put this bug to bed and move on.

INVESTIGATIONS ARE A-GO!

Still the same generic font, I'm afraid. :/ I know what it's like to have a persistent problem undermine development, so I can sympathise.

Balls.
Okay, spritefonts it must be. More effort, but more creative control, I suppose.

Back to my essay so I can get it done and get on to this.

Thanks again for the help  Tiger Hand Thumbs Up Right

Well, for my thousandth post, I thought I'd provide an update for this little game here.

I've been remaking it in flash, because it is nothing but math, and math is so much easier to do in hard code then in singular steps.

And it is coming along famously. I'll pass what little story there is to you now.

In the darkest and most mysterious wilds of Canada, a young man, raised by a foster family, has found his latent inborn skill: he is incredibly good at smashing into things. Determined to make something of himself and to find his true family, he begins to train deep in the forest, honing his mighty skill for damaging things at high velocity with little regard for his health or others. From a meagre start performing for (and against) the woodland creatures, he will take his skill to the streets, to national TV, and to frontiers never thought possible.

It should be done within a month or two if I can really buckle down and focus.
I may look for an artist if I can't get the style I want, but that remains to be seen.
