I quite like the 'random team event' idea, as long as it's an opt-in thing and only a small part of the weekend. Maybe a one-off thing on the first evening, to help us TIGJam noobs feel a bit more a part of it?
As I mentioned before, in berlin we did it, a three hour random pairup jam.  Worked fine.  No major rules, presented like all of the other jams (I don't know if they count as opt in or opt out).  Easy going.  Very few problems.

I was answering to the request for suggestions, I don't think we HAVE to try it if too much people don't like the idea :D

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum. Just signed up for the Jam a few days ago (heard about it from a friend) and though I'd introduce myself on here so people are not like "who the hell is this guy?"

I'm a student at Anglia Ruskin University doing computer games and visual effects, 3rd year. I specialize in art, 3D and 2D. No programming experience regretfully, though I hope I can still make myself useful. I've been to 3 other Jams before so I have some experience in the dynamics of a jam and working under tight deadlines... never anything like 3 hours though, however I welcome the challenge. :D see you there!

Cool.  Welcome!  I should start a 'introduce yourself jammers' thread, actually.

I just realised that this game-jam is the week after the IGDA's Global Game Jam...

Am I man enough to survive two consecutive weekends of intense development?  Can I maintain my creativity across both weekends?

I doubt my wife would approve, so maybe I'll give GGJ a miss this year...

Ahh come on, live a little!

I've got GGJ* one weekend, followed by TIGJam, followed by a weekend-long recording session, followed by a weekend with the missus.

I don't know which is gonna be more knackering.

*I also have to come home early on the Saturday of the GGJ to do a gig.

Meh...  Nobody else is even registered for the nearest (Luton, which is about 30-45 minutes away) jam, so there's always the risk that it would be just me on my own.  Also, the distance is awkward; far enough that the petrol-costs would be irritating, but too close to justify staying in the area even if I could afford to.

Besides, this is going to be my first Game-Jam, so arranging to leap into the unknown two weeks in a row would be a little scary.

More likely that people don't give a shit about registering.  I recommend going to both.  It's good to know jammy people in one's vicinity.  Don't use burnout after the first as an excuse for missing the second, though Smiley  I'm going to a jam in London the week before as well.  I'm looking forward to having two in a row Smiley

I think the petrol-costs are my main motivation; money is tight right now, so I can't really justify both jams to my wife.

Hello!

I've realised I won't be able to make the Global Game Jam and was wondering if there's an alternative. I've just found this jam, wow, it's just around the corner! I'd love to come along if you'll have me.

Do I just have to buy myself a ticket and add myself to the roster?

yep!  and turn up.  (roster is optional, really).  Also, just to check - you know that there are indie devs who meet up every Tuesday in Cambridge, right? ( http://cambridgeindies.com/ / http://twitter.com/cb2indies )

I think I'd heard it mentioned somewhere before, but never properly investigated it. I'd probably only be able to get there for about 7 or 8pm, but looks like fun.

Just send a message before if you're thinking of heading so we can be sure that we'll hang about Smiley
