Hi everyone,

Mutant Entertainment Studios is very proud to announce that our first game, The Campaign of 1863 http://www.campaign63.com is now in Open Beta testing, and we would love to get your feedback.

The Campaign of 1863 is a turn based strategy game that lets you assume the roles and responsibilities of one of ten historic Civil War commanders. Using a "we-go" turn system, where all commanders orders are processed at the same time once the game turn deadline is reached. Can you maneuver your forces to victory, or will you suffer an inglorious defeat?

All that's required to play is an internet connection, your favorite browser and Flash Player 8 or higher.

We currently have 2 game types available. The "Full" 5 vs 5 team game and the "Duel" one on one game. The Campaign of 1863 is designed as a board game taken to the internet and as such there is no single player version. However we do have a demo version http://www.campaign63.com/Campagin63Demo.html that lets you see the look and feel of the game but will not process any of your orders.

Please note that registration is required, but once that's done you are free to play 1 game at a time (subscriptions are available for more than one game)

Onward to Victory!

you didn't provide a link to the game. could you provide one? it doesn't really belong in 'feedback' unless you give us a link to play it.

There are a few steps required to play since its an online multiplayer only game (no AI opponents)
1. Registration is required
2. Once registration is completed you can then join a game
3. The game will not launch until all your fellow commanders have "accepted command" - I had to add this step to weed out people that would sign up to play and then not play

There is also a demo version that is available that does not require registration at
http://www.campaign63.com/Campagin63Demo.html This will let you poke around at the UI but will not process any actual game turns.

on what page?

i don't believe you are using links well. take a look at your posts. there are no links in any of them. perhaps you are using the code wrong and your links aren't showing up? are you using html or something? you need to use bbcode.

edit: wait, nevermind, my browser was blocking them (apparently it thought your site was a virus site). i turned off the blocking and now i can see them. sorry for the trouble. you may want to get your site cleared with google though (it treats it as if it's a blocked site).

Paul what script blocker are you using? Im getting some decent traffic and Ive never had anyone complain that the site was blocked? My google webmaster account shows everything is all clear on their end, so Im a bit confused. Thanks for taking the time, I do appreciate it.

i'm using 'adblock plus' and 'adsweep' which are plugins in google chrome. for some reason they allowed all of the links on this forum except yours. after disabling them your link showed up.

Well Im stumped. I duplicated your view (chrome, adblock, adsweep) and the links show up for me.
So if anyone else can't see the links and is interested in giving me some feedback, try disabling your ad blocking scripts. Alternatively our web site is at www dot campaign63 dot com.
Thanks for letting me know about this problem Paul

did also may need to set your extensions up (choose which 'subscriptions' or sets of sites they block), that may be the reason the links appear for you. by default adblocks block nothing until you set them to block databases of things.

anyway sorry for the long diversion, i'll try playing your game and giving feedback on it soon; i tried the demo part a bit and will try real games in it next.

Dude, I'm getting google.com for all the links too. I'm using Firefox, and I turned off AdBlocker+ like you suggested. Still nothing.

So I'll check out your link manually.

Just looked into the demo of the game and my head is spinning. It looks like a cool game but there but the learning curve seems a bit intimidating.

Some sort of in-game walk-through would help a lot. When I'm a little less tired I'll read through the help files, and play some more.

Keep up the good work!

lostmercenary,
There is a learning curve for those not familiar with a war boardgame system. Like most strategy games there is some complexity to it. There is a fine line with strategy games where you have to make the rules at least somewhat complex with out making it too difficult for new players to get the hang of. We plan on making a series of video tutorials, however there are some more pressing game elements that need to be worked out first.

John,
Im totally stumped. It possible that google did something with my site rank. I recently reworked the landing page (most will probably notice that it doesn't match the rest of the site) and somehow my robots.xml file was corrupted, so now my google index is all messed up. Anyone else have any experience with anything like that?

Anyway thanks for the input everyone, and Id love to get some feedback on the gameplay. As of now we are finding that player matchmaking is our most difficult hurdle, especially since there is no computer AI.
Thanks again
Jeff
