Ignore these mean people: Nobody knows how to upload a file at first, they just learn so that they can laugh at people who don't know
1) Make your file
2) Go to a image hosting site (like imgur)
3) Click upload
4) Browse to your file
5) Upload
6) Copy the 'direct link' box
7) place it in these tags in a post:
Code:

8 ) Click post

Umm, I'm trying to draw pixel art gold coins (stacks and heaps of gold coins), but nothing good comes out.

Gold coins, how do they work.

I'm trying to find stacks/heaps of gold coins on OpenGameArt, but can't find any.
Do you have anything you can share for public domain, CC-SA or CC-BY?
Or, perhaps, have any tips for drawing gold coins?

Cool coins... for a platformer!

But would you bust your balls diving into a dungeon filled with skulls, spikes and hellspawn that rip off your limbs the second they lay your eyes on you just... for a few coin?

I need some serious bling there, some real shinny heaps of crunchy golden treasure. Treasure so shiny that 4 creepy dudes would dive into the depths of hell to acquire em'.
It is probably the most important art asset in the game.

Basically I need draw a stack of gold for the gold counter (currently looks like three yellow squares Facepalm) and heap of gold that could be placed around the dungeon (probably in several sizes for different amounts).

Yeah, there's no easy way out with this.
Gotta google some good reference images and attack the problem head on.

EDIT:

Pancakes!
Working on this game is so much fun Hand Any Key

Look up the wario land 4 arts for some fun, exciting money. That game was centred around maxing your loot, because of wario being a greedy bastard.
Making coins shiny, spinning, and using lots of them helps keep the ADD kids focussed, and having multiple denominations of $$$ can help with making high loot areas not require like 50x50 spaces Smiley

If it's gotta scale well you might want to get a preview set up with the image at various scales so you can see how it'll work in-game (assuming you dont have runtime asset reloading in your engine).

You may also want to consider chests that open and spew their shiny contents all around for a little more omph.

(Skip to ~3min in this for gameplay)

Note the bouncing coins from killing enemies or opening chests or smashing shit are much more exciting than lame static coins Smiley

If you're suggesting that gigantic rooms full of loot is a bad idea, I'd like to respectfully disagree.

Oh I'm not, just that a single value of loot item is a bad idea as you require linear area to increase the value of a room, instead of just dropping higher value stuff in there and having some variety Smiley
