Animation's all "slide-y", unfortunately. Also the shirt's shadow is kinda crappy.

Looks okay to me despite that. If you keep working on it, maybe make it more "bouncy" for lack of a better word, kinda like you did for just the hair.
isnt bouncing exactly what the character is doing

why are characters of games like this always bouncing anyway

are they stressed, do they have a short attention span, what is up srsly : ((( its like one of those people on the tram going crazy with their legs its just incredibly annoying

It's a great sprite, but why is he so... hyperactive? Can't somebody think of a new RPG-style idle animation that actually makes sense? ._.

It'll fit great into a fighting game/brawler. In that context it looks pretty awesome.

Nope it's still weird as heck (but for some reason standard in vidgams). The only context idle animations like that make any sense is on a dance floor.

I meant make the body look less like it's sliding, and more like it's bouncing, like he did for the hair and top of the jacket. As it is now, it looks like his body is just moving up and down one pixel, try stretching and squashing it a bit, just enough to look cartoony, not sure how it would look, but it's worth a shot.

Yesterday's pixel dailies was halo, so I mashed halo with mercenary kings.

@SolarLune: Saw that you did this, and it almost seems to me like that pixeldaily topic was made just for you. I really like what you came up with for it.

@blekdar: Man so long as it's nice pixel art, never be afraid to spam. Words to live by. Mister Chief here is lit up by his muzzle flash, correct?

...on a serious note, the pixel art looks great and stylized. My favorite would probably be the health indicator, though it does look like the health is a little vague, is there a place to check exact health, or do you just have to estimate based off of the status?

no you dont get to see how much health you have exactly, or how much damage you receive or recover. in terms of numbers anyway.

theres flavor text that gives you some idea of how hard you have been hit, or how much you recover, but you just have to get a feel for your hp/healing.

@P-Flute - D'awww, it's been a recent thing people saying that my pixel art is in anyway good, so thanks for that. Also, you're correct. Mister Chief is lit by the muzzle flash that I got annoyed trying to draw so I just left it out. Glad it still reads that way without it.

@Cellusious - Gawd, it's like, you know it's pixel art, but it's hard to tell. Fuck man that stuff is so well done.

@Rat Casket - Pretty dope UI you got going there. So, if I understand the health system is more akin to how resident evil did it? I like the idea of it though, seems like it would make combat much more interesting.

More detail and bounce on him would be a good idea; it's weird his chain and shirt in particular are so static.

Mmmmmmaybe? I haven't played RE in a while but the way mine works is you have 100 hp total. Every 25 hp lost changes the state of the hp that you can see. 100 - 75 hp = GREAT. 75 - 50 hp = OKAY, etc etc. So you can take a couple of hits before the state changes.

Sounds similar. It's been a bit for me, but it was like the ECG graphic with a text status below. It was 4-5 statuses:
Green: Good
Yellow: Warning
Red: Critical
Purple?: Poison / infected (note, this is all it would say. You didn't actually know how hurt you were aside from visual cues)

There were also visual cues, you character would lurch around if you were harmed.

That all being said, I like yours and I like the idea of it being applied to a more RPG based environment.
