the animation is not that bad, I'd be putting the bird in a more gliding position, since right now it looks like it's flapping its wings from a standing position, which wouldn't be bad if he was just taking off, but I don't think it's good for flying. Also in general the positioning of the bird seems to be in reverse. He falls when his wings go down, even though that should be the opposite, because that's when the bird gets lift. Holy crap just small chance like that can give big impact. It looks much more natural Imo. I did know that bird position can be this effective for animation. I really should study birds physics more often. Thank you for this!

I've said this before, but there really should be a simple "physics for animators" book or even animation (heh, that would be apt, really). Just the Newtonian bits explained in an intuitive manner would help so much.

Made the little erasers bops as you bounce of them. I can't get bored of staring at it Its so nice to see you are back.. Looks awesome! I hope you finish your game someday! I would love to try it. Thanks ^_^ I think this current game (rush before the ink gets you) is getting close to completion and the core gameplay can already be largely experienced with the current release, although there will be improved gravity and reactivity in the upcoming one.

Monitor/server room background. Originally a test image for some potential commission work that fell through.

Programmer's first venture into pixel art... I'm fairly happy with the results for a first attempt. I did this bouncing ball first. I decided to use the Game Boy palette because I wanted to limit myself in the color department so I had less to focus on. After that I decided to try my hand at making a simple tileset. Once again I didn't want to worry too much about color at this point so I stole the palette from another image I found here on tigsource. This image is a 3x3 grid of 9 different tiles that I think came out okay. I'm not too happy with how the rocks came out except for the bottom row (which I did last so I guess I improved a little bit after doing the top two rows). I didn't have a whole lot of rhyme or reason to how I did the shading in the upper rows so I think that's where most of the improvement can be made. Let me know what you think! Constructive criticism is welcome and appreciated

A good start, but the bouncing ball animation is awkward. What's your learning goal? The shading is decent, the animation needs work.

The goal is to learn enough about pixel art and animation to be able to make my own art assets for my games. Art is always the reason I stop working on a project, it becomes a pretty significant roadblock. I made a second pass on the animation that I think looks a little better. Here it is: I removed the "squishing" at the top of the bounce because I think it looked unnatural and isn't very realistic. I also sped up the squishing part where the ball hits the ground, and removed the elongation of the ball when falling. I think it looks a bit better. More like it's bouncing up and down rather than ping-ponging between two invisible walls. What do you think?
