It seems RPGMaker has a big stigma around TIGS. I remember using it back when I first started getting excited about making games. But we can be a bunch of artisy douches when we want.

Omigosh, RPGMaker was my first Playstation game. No, seriously, I got a Playstation because I wanted to learn how to make an RPG. Sadly, the interface frustrated my seven-year-old self, and I moved on to Ape Escape and Oddworld Abe's Oddysee.

I'm fine with RPGMaker. I still use it to make small games for friends from time to time. What pisses me off is that people make little effort to make good games with it. I mean for god's sake, he didn't even change the default sprites!

I guess the thing that might have ticked people off was that he was actually looking into selling it (I assume that's what he meant with "portals"). If that's true (I'm not very certain) then either he doesn't know a lot about quality standards or he think a bit too highly of his own abilities. Granted, my few attempts at RPGMaker back in the day were also with the RTP sprites and tilesets, but I in no way thought they were worthy of being any more than a freeware diversion, possibly just to close friends (who are terrible at giving constructive criticism with their fear of hurting your feelings, by the way).

Looking at the work, I'd guess he's just a kid (in high school?) with an abundance of time and a lack of perspective ... I wouldn't get angry about it.

Exactly. You make little games to learn the system, put some jokes in it, send it to some friends. They say things like "omg ure awesome lol", you become confident and make more games, while improving yourself, you know, a different event here, a custom sprite there, slowly changing the system maybe, working to make something new and different, right? Nooo. This dumbass (in probably junior high school) believes in the first "omg ure awesome lol sell ur games" message from his friend and comes here to sell his crap. Oh, and Melly, I would criticize the *bleep* outta you. I kid, I kid. Though, I'm known for my harsh criticism among friends.

That was harsh. Not sure if it was entirely warranted - it seemed like he was spruiking, but... wow. Yeah, it looked derivative and damned average - but, he was probably an "omg ure awesum" kid without proper know-how of how this place works. Whatevs, I guess. Just seems out of place for Tigsource. EDIT: "Note: This game is a shareware (free-to-try for one hour time)." Oooh kay. Didn't see that first time round. Derivative and $25 AU? A little more warranted. I mean, I'm all for "sexy elven girlfriends" and RPGmaker not really but when you sell it, this crosses the line. It was still pretty Un-

I don't think it's really acceptable to treat people like that.
People should be able to come to the TIGS knowing that they'll get useful, constructive criticism on their games, even if the games are bollocks.
Also, I've noticed that certain forum members like to be overly harsh to newbies who've neglected to post in the Introduce Yourself thread. None of that, eh?

It's true that the whole thread was a bit harsh, but I'm sure that wasn't the intent of the people involved. Also it's true that the OP didn't really stick around except to pimp his game. We might have had opportunities to clear things up and give useful advice, had the OP patricipated more himself.
