Last May, I moved from New England to the California Bay Area. This is my first winter since 2002 without snow. I want to wander around in the snow. I want to wander around in my idealized memory of what it is like to walk around in the snow. Maybe I'll throw in some music and psychedelia, who knows.

Oh, I totally forgot to talk about the, uh, neat part. Spoilers: there will be artefacts hidden around the environment. Bringing these artefacts near a campfire will make them play music loops. The act of placing and removing these artefacts from the campfire will be akin to arranging and sequencing tracks in a program like Ableton.

I'll post screenshots every time I have something neat to show. Feel free to ask questions about how I did stuff and I'll share.

Here's day 1:

I'm using Unity for this project.

Next up is: adding a particle system for snow (and maybe refraction shaders for snow particle collisions with the camera) and adding things to explore and look at in the environment.

EDIT: added description of the sequencer aspect of the program.

Day 1 looks awesome. I hope Day 2 continues to be!

I haven't walked in snow for a while now; best of luck with this, and it already looks amazingly promising!

Aww, thanks for the encouragement.

And although Tahoe is 4 hours away, I don't have a car

Really neat concept. If I had one extra wish for this it would be multiplayer.

Haha, but then it would just be Journey but with snow instead of sand.

This is really cool though, I really like and want to make a game with a strong winter theme to it. I find arctic environments really lend themselves to mystical and wilderness theme elements in a pleasing way.

Not dead! Just working on other things for $

Implemented snow 'splats' on the camera that cause refraction. Took a bit longer than I had anticipated because I had to create a GameObject cache manager to go along with it.
