Project abandoned.
Honor broken.
Wondering if there's still time to make a simpler game.

Almost a month. Go for it. Nothing wrong with keeping it simple Smiley

I have motivation. I'm making something.
The problem is, my original design isn't really made to accomodate a versus feeling. Instead, it's more of a cooperative affair, or maybe just single player.
Should I find a way to shoehorn in the versus element or just not participate in the competition at all? Then again, even if I did participate, I don't know if I'll finish the game in time. Shrug

The competition is about competitive multiplayer. It's 'probably' not the best idea to get a concept not built around that and shoehorn something of the type in. I don't believe that tends to go very well.

In the end it's your choice.

I'd buy THAT for a dollar!

Also I'll drag my sister to the computer to play some versus games with me this weekend.

She'll be THRILLED.

Is it possible to make a game which is Versus, but locally?
I don't think I have time to setup internet technologies, but a local versus game is more feasible.

The rules don't say you have to do it over the internet, so yes, definitely.

The rules state that the offline/online part is up to you.

The template for finished entries has been added. The final competition layout will look something like this:

Hey any flixel/flash programmer out there wanting to help me finish my verses entry do let me know Smiley Its local multiplayer so no network programming etc. Most of the ground work is done so should not take more than a couple of days !

Merged this post with the collaboration thread.

Any problems if I deliver a beta version to the competition and keep adding content to it after it?

I won't be able to put in everything I wanted in time Sad

Pretty much any game submitted can be considered a beta. There usually isn't enough time for heavy testing before the deadline. Here are two examples of games that were improved upon after the deadline, and I haven't heard any complaints about that:

I actually thought I was going to participate in this contest. But my work-project sort of got in the way. The only game-related coding I did was to start porting a game-library from Flash to GWT. But I think the library will be awesome and the game we were planning will be even more awesome. So while we won't produce anything for the contest, we have at least started on a new project. A game which I think we may actually finish in a year or so.

What you do with the game past the compo is completely up to you. Even during voting there isn't much problem with bug fixes and balance tweaks, as long as you don't add new content to the game, which would be a little unfair to the other participants.

After the voting, though, it's completely up to you. You can also keep working on another version of the game separate from the one you submitted to the compo even during voting, but it won't be judged.

Sunday midnight as in "The midnight between Saturday and Sunday"
or
Sunday midnight as in "The midnight between Sunday and Monday"

I heard some confusion about this in the irc.

Asked and answered before:
Quote
End Date: Sunday, February 27th, Midnight
Are we talking 00:00 Feb 27 or 23:59 Feb 27?
the end of sunday.

I won't make it by the way.

Just to make sure: That is the end of Sunday in whatever our timezone is, right? I don't want to miss the deadline by a timezone or anything.
