What I'm thinking of is tracks composed as loops; then when I change from one track into another (as player health decreases, for example) I can fade one out and bring the other one in.

I'll be spending today re-working the inventory system... there's a few bugs that I need to work out. If I finish it (hopefully within a few hours), I'll start making tiles and other such art assets.

Mmmkay... you want to email me a quicker way to get in touch with you by the way? Don't suppose you've got any IM clients or skype installed. I feel like direct conversation is the easiest way to make sure I know what I've gotta get to you.

I should probably get some installed, then. What IM client do you use?

Dear John,

Did you whip up those color schemes from scratch or was there a website or tool you used for that brainstorming?

By the way, I am looking forward to this game! It looks like you've been making great progress.

Sincerely,
Flaff

This better be a screenshot and start of the modern minimalist game movement.

...That's actually an interesting idea.

Did you whip up those color schemes from scratch or was there a website or tool you used for that brainstorming?

The first and second one was started with a tool you can find here:
http://colorschemedesigner.com/
Then I just tweaked as I saw fit.

The last one I found on a website...
http://www.colourlovers.com/

These are great resources, by the way. Highly recommend.

why do you want wavs? they'll increase the game size dramatically. OGGs are really good alternatives to mp3s.

Yeah; shojin clarified that for me. I wasn't familiar at all with .oggs; .wavs were what I generally worked with before this project.

Update on the inventory system:

It works now, and it's GREAAAAAT. Gonna spend the rest of today workin' on art assets.

Incorrect. Dragonmaw's boner is independent of gravity / the laws of physics.

It goes straight out like a vector to the furthest reaches of space, unhampered by the inertia of Earth's movement.

So, news!

We've figured out how the tracks will work for the game. Since gameplay will be 20-30 minutes at times, about 4 tracks that are 10 minutes each that loop should be good enough.
Plus one of course for the main theme (menu music or something else): http://soundcloud.com/redshojin/alone

I'll break down how the sound (at least in terms of music will work):
As your health drops, the music will change as another way to alert the player of the current game status, and in effect, the status quo between players. I'll make each track get even more and more dark as your health drops, making it seem more urgent and bleak, like maybe you need to start backstabbing your friend a little bit more. I aim to keep a certain amount of mystery and darkness to this game.

100-75% health: http://soundcloud.com/redshojin/best-of-friends
Kind of poppy, keeps you pumped, wanting to play. Lots of room for me to develop something to just keep people interested in wanting to explore and scavenge for food.

75-50% health:
Something a little bit not as nice, like maybe you're questioning whether you AND your friend can survive. He may not have saved you from that monster as quickly as he could have... maybe it's nothing.

50-25% health: http://soundcloud.com/redshojin/there-can-only-be-one
Your friend clearly pushed the wrong button, leading to your leg being broken with limited mobility... You have no doubts. He's out to kill you, and you're out to kill him.

25-10% health:
It's now or never. Drastic measures must be taken to ensure your survival. Shoot on sight - your survival depends on it. (As the other tracks may have been getting a little slower, this one needs to be fast paced and very urgent.)

10-1% health:
You can only see in gray scale, and suddenly all you can hear is your own heart beating. Your survival is looking pretty nonexistent, and you're likely to be the one to bite the bullet.

I was going to say "reminds me of Spirited Away" but it seems like some people pretty much already said that.
