just added the old logo of the project I announced previously to this compo, that project is in fact intended to be a bigger, more focused on the simulation part, project and Depth of Despair is the versus focused compo game. Radix is unfortunately using the same name, but as he seems to don't like it maybe he will change it, or whatever, it's just a name after all

Regarding the name, don't you think DungeonCraft sounds a little unimaginative? When I see the title it makes me think your thought process went like this "Hey look how well Warcraft/Starcraft/Minecraft are doing. My game is set in a dungeon. I know I'll call it DungeonCraft!". I mean, that's probably not how it happened, but that's the first impression I get. Just something to be aware of.

I agree and it would be a shame for people to dismiss something that's actually really cool and not derivative at all, based solely on the name. Besides, Depths of Despair sounds good to me.

Either way, this looks really impressive so far. I think the tiles you made are great, faking AO in vector art is a really clever idea.

Thanks guys! About the name, I just like the meaning of it. I'll probably do a joke about how well *craft games are doing but the name summarize the kind of gameplay I want to have, like Dungeon Keeper did for that game. That said, who knows. I like Depths of Despair too but it's a bit generic rpg sounding... (It's even actually a map on some edition of D&D according to google).

oh shit this game is going out of proportions  Shocked

totally scratched flash and as3 shitty P2P to go on C++ with my own 3d engine, I'll probably surely miss the compo deadline but I can assure that I'll maintain the game style and this game will be out soon and will kick asses.

I'm projecting 3d models over a 2d map now and it looks almost like my old vector art, just 1000% more fluid and cool to see, I'll try with 3d tiles too).

I think I'm going to close this thread and open a devlog instead...

thanks a lot guys! Smiley

I've registered a domain: http://www.dungeoncraftgame.com
Devlog is still offline (never done web programming, just started to skin wordpress today) but I'd be glad if you decide to follow us on twitter.
I'll move the project out of the compo threads as well and open a proper devlog here too (maybe with more in-depth and non formal stuff than our site!)

I bet you can do a very 2D vector-like projection of the 3D graphics. Then you'd keep that original bit of charm in as well.

Wow! You did a really nice job converting those to 3D and keeping the original feel.
