I don't really have a clear idea of what the game will look like, but that little part of me that spent my childhood playing red/blue with my friends just went into nostalgia overdrive.

If you're capable of making your own art and such, why not just make your own 'mon game? It'd be a lot more fun and unique, and probably would fare better against lawyers, haha. We need more indie 'mon games!

So it's gonna be kind of MMO, where everyone can make their server? And how are the pokemon supposed to level up? Just from the few gym battles? There definitely needs to be a world where you can walk and stuff.
