...leave the player a better person for having played it.
I was going to say something along the lines of this. But I think not being a waste of time would be good. Automatically adjusting all of its settings to be appropriate for the system. That includes key bindings. I type with the dvorak keybindings and I hate having to reconfigure all of my keys so that I can play and then enter something in the games chat window. I think Quake Live did this perfectly. I just loaded it up and it worked, didn't need to change keys and could just start enjoying the game.

-Make me able to navigate menus with my mouse like it's actually a mouse, not a joystick (or don't make the mouse all laggy in menus) -Let me pause and skip all cutscenes and splash screens. Heck, fast forwarding and rewinding would be nice too. -Actually, let me fast forward and rewind gameplay too. -Autosave frequently, but don't autosave when I am about to die, and definitely keep more than one slot for autosave. Quicksaving is nice too. -Load times should be all but nonexistent by now. Seriously. -Make all lock-picking or hacking games take less than 5 seconds. -Definitely make sure I can run the game in windowed mode.

- be easy to learn, difficult to master. - avoid stupid DLC. New levels designed after the game is released is fine, but stuff that could be in the disc at the time of release is beyond retarded. - be balanced, so there's always variety in games with several selectable characters. - be focused mainly on gameplay. - be cheap.

Have a pause and a skip function for cutscenes.
Never have level scaling.
Modable.
Well optimized.

Always have super low poly version of your game, not everybody want your fancy graphics, if your content is good, now low texturing will kill it. Most of your gameplay can run on ds (yeah not rts) so leave me small and ugly and runnable on my computer (mass effect 2 i will kill you). I paid for it dang!
Think about fucking touchpad seriously
Indie: FUcking have a support for international keyboard, or at least have the decency to have configurable control. When possible double wasd with arrow key. Azerty say FUCK to you, especially if your fucking selling your game to a poor pal.

1. not use cutscenes, or at least not have more than 10 minutes of cutscenes 2. not have high payoffs for boring and time-consuming strategies 3. not be obsessed with photorealism 4. not be sexist 5. not have a single-player mode which cannot be completed in less than 15 hours by a skilled player 6. be demon's souls

Alot of these are really mundane! This world is PERFECT. There are no bad things! Rephrasing the answer to the question "What don't you like in videogames" is boring! I will fix some of them Allow me to mute the voice acting Have all the voice acting done by David Attenborough. Have a pause and a skip function for cutscenes. Have the raddest cutscenes so you would never want to pause or skip them. Always have super low poly version of your game Always be Beamed Directly into your MIND so that the interfaces between you and the game are never a problem!

I wish I could play versions of the first three Silent Hill games with Japanese voice acting. The cheesy american acting used to drive me nuts.

Wait, isn't there languange option in Silent Hill games? Or does it only change text? But anyways, to continue thread. ... have "old-school" graphics. I hate these "new and realistic" crap they load in every game! Mainstream gaming is pretty much dead for me.

Have every 3d character model look like Nathan Fillion, and be voiced by Nathan Fillion in his role as... you got it, Nathan Fillion.

I think that any game that has been localized should at least have the option to switch between the original voice actors and the localized voice actors.

- have subtitles for all dialogue, whether cutscene or in game - be pausable at any time, including cutscenes - have any cutscenes be skippable, with a journal entry for what happened in it - in long games, provide a tiny snippet that gives you an idea "where you are" on your load game screen (think Chronotrigger - probably the only reason I finished that game) - give the lions share of the profits to the developer, not the publisher

That may work for you in your perfect world. In my perfect world, I'm actually pretty comfortable with the idea of paying someone else to market and do the actual selling of my game. There's only so much you can do, you know?

In a perfect world, every game would be about providing a fun experience - and not about how game x is somehow better or worth more than game y.
