Smiley Hand Thumbs Up Right The game is pretty much 99% design-complete. Just waiting on those art and sound assets... Dan.

Here's some hidden unlockable cameo characters I mocked up that we'd like to feature in the game, provided we get their owners' permission (we've got the OK on the red guy, so far!) They would look and behave similar to their origin-game counterparts Wink Can you guess who they are??

If we get the OK on the blue one, I'll probably re-do him in pixel because he's not really reading as the character he's referencing.

EDIT:

Hmm, not sure if I like that either, but I think I have one last idea that just might work...

Hahaha, those are pretty neat. Not sure who the blue guy is, but I can identify the other two. Smiley

Diglett! I KNEW that looked like a Pokemon before I added the eyebrows, but I couldn't remember which one... I wonder if Derek thought the same when making the Spelunky guy?

If Derek gives the OK and we have time to implement him, this character will be featured as a hidden unlockable character named Lunky. His unique ability is to draw in nearby crystals like a magnet, which is in the spirit of his treasure-hunting ways. Maybe he'll also be able to see hidden keys through walls, or something! To unlock him, you'd need to find 10 hidden keys across the first theme- there's 10 levels per theme and each level has a key hidden somewhere in it. Until now, these keys haven't had much functionality apart from providing bonus points when beating a stage.

I'm not sure what to do about the blue guy... Maybe it's cool if one of the references is more obscure, even though he's from a widely known game (also a platformer)... We thought of having his functionality in from the start, but never quite put it into the game, so I thought it would be cool to feature it in one of these unlockable characters and the cameo he's referencing is quite appropriate. Anyways, I think it would be cute to reference other indie game characters because that kind of thing is always fun.

Those are adorable!

How does Meaty work?

And, uh, "Viridy" probably has gravity powers, doesn't he.

Since you want to release this for mobiles and it looks child and family friendly.. You are aware of what Spunk is a colloquialism for aren't you?

Instead of hitting a wall and bouncing off, he'll slide down Smiley I was thinking of calling him Super Meat Goo, but I think I like Meaty much better, thanks!

As for the other guy, I was thinking of calling him Formula V6, and yes, instead of jumping, he just flips gravity. I haven't played with him enough yet to know if this is going to work; I tried the mechanic briefly and realized it was pretty hard to control, but I think it's something you can get used to.

Yeah, vim, vigor, guts, courage, etc. It was a more common term in the 50s, along with moxie, which is also synonymous with the other words I just mentioned Smiley

Hahah, yeah...  Who, Me?

But don't tell anyone!

Also, did you know our company is called Chocolate Homunculus? It's a reference to Peep Show, a British comedy that's my favorite show!

I made a mention of it in the start of this thread. They kept it, though. And they should, actually.

The last 10% is always the longest... But just to let you know, we're still making progress. At the latest, this will be released in September! Wink

Here's an update for you guys...

We're a bit behind schedule here, but we're nearing the finish line.
I'm in the process of laying out the tiles for the last theme in our
game.  We're also looking into going through a publisher and maybe
even launch with Android.

here's a sneak peak for you guys of what I'm working on:

Well seems like release is always one month away, but my team and I are pushing for a development cut-off date of October 17th, 2012, so the game should be released soon after that on the following platforms:

- Windows Phone
- iOS
- Android

That's right, folks. We got a lot of requests for Android and felt it would be worth it, so the game is going to be launched across those three platforms. After that, we'll be considering PC and maybe XBox or something. More to come very soon!
