the story is so paper thin it's nonexistent, but I liked how it felt like a dumb self-serious action movie, some games don't capture that.

Gameplay-wise, Max Payne 3 is probably the best shooter I've ever played. The bullet time effect works very well with the new cover mechanics, you have a lot of freedom to shoot and the designers knew how to balance that.

This. I loved how the enemies actually would flank me too, it made the shoot dodge just that much cooler when I had to use it in a pinch.

max payne 3 has maybe literally the worst level design of any game, regardless of budget, in the last 10 years. I dare any of you to play it on the new york minute hardcore or w/e mode where a few bullets kill and you have to speedrun.

the movement/shooting was slick as hell tho

Just beat Symphony of the Night. I liked it, but it got pretty monotonous and frustrating at times.

I liked SotN and found it to be consistently entertaining throughout. What parts did you find monotonous or frustrating? I'm curious to know. Maybe you didn't like the second half of the game where you basically had free reign to explore wherever and collect all the Dracula parts? I could see that wearing thin if the combat didn't interest you.

imo some of the later igavanias (particularly aria of sorrow <333) are better than sotn. sotn has the nicest *audiovisuals* tho and also gets bonus points for being the first (tho im not sure how much that counts for in this case because they literally just took super metroid and grafted "rpg elements" onto it)

Max Payne 3 was fun for a bit but it's a little one-dimensional and gets boring after a few hours.

SOTN gets a lot of credit because it's a lot of firsts for the series. I really prefer all of the DS ones though, idk. Don't get frustrated, use your anger as fuel for your journey.

I just got $100 on Steam as a gift so I'm spoiling myself with all the great games I've missed like Portal 2 and Fez  Gomez

I just finished playing Little Inferno, having gotten it in the latest humble bundle. The style is great, as usual for Kyle Gabler; same thing with the music. The game's pretty fun, and surprisingly well done. The only thing I could ask for would be more combinations and interesting interactions between objects. It was there to an extent, but I would have liked to see a lot more.

Dude, try the demo on their site. I love it, even though I'm rarely successful.

Yeah I wish it evolved further than me just buying everything and throwing it in. Nice game though, loved playing it.

Fire Emblem just became even more fun. Smiley

I'm crazy about the soundtrack too:

Just finished my LP of An Untitled Story. Such a beautiful game... Masterful difficulty is BRUTAL, though. The last boss cost me a chunk of my sanity.

I bought the Old Gods DLC for Crusader Kings 2 the other day but didn't really have the chance to play it until today. So far this seems like the most game changing CK2 DLC/patch. Playing Vikings or Mongols is probably the most "fun" (as in instantly gratifying) way to play the game. You can declare war or pretty much anyone, get lots of cash early via looting and upgrade your holdings accordingly. It's as close as CK2 is ever going to get to an RTS (without mods that is).

my inner child was very pleased.

Downloading Oracle of Season on my 3DS. I have played very little of it a long time ago and I'm curious how it compares to Link's Awakening. I have heard Seasons is often preferred over Ages, what do you think?

seasons is better but both of them are worse than link's awakening. they're still good games though.
