and was struck by the fact that the demo is a unique game in and of itself. At least, I think it is... I haven't quite gotten around to buying the full edition as of yet.
Yeah, it's completely unique. Though of course some stuff is re-used in the game.

Played Botanicula, it was incredible. The gameplay was your standard point-n-click fare, but everything else was tops, especially the sound/music.

........Please tell me this is not the real solution I heard you can get jetpack boots or something?
That chest is the one that contains the jetpack boots.
You can also get there with the Spear of Summoning, but it's essentially the same solution of building a staircase of npcs to climb. So yes, that is the intended solution to that puzzle. I'm not aware of any other.

bloodlines rules, probably the most overlooked game in the series.

I almost missed it because I had an SNES at the time. The levels are gorgeous and a few of them have really clever visual gimmicks that look and play better than Super Castlevania's mode-seven shenanigans (although it too is a good game overall).
Borderlands has been doing a neat contest over the last month where every day you're given one of the bosses to kill for an entry into a prize drawing. On top of that, each day's target drops a rare weapon that's been freshly rebalanced and tasks players with using it to kill certain monsters to earn an in-game end-of-week reward. It's both fun to play, and a good excuse to test out the re-balanced weapons.
I also picked up Thief: Deadly Shadows since I'd only ever played the first one. It's got me a little excited for the reboot coming out next year.

SC is ok, but I didn't like it much though. What are the others worth checking castlevanias? I played SotN, castlevania 2, and AoS.

I actually liked Curse of Darkness, but I know that's kind of a controversial pick. You should also play the last gameboy Castlevania, Legends, because it's good and everyone overlooks it.

I skipped Curse of Darkness because I didn't like the first PS2 Castlevania. Reading the Wikipedia summery it sounds like the fixed up the things I didn't like, the boring level variety and progression and lack of variety in equipment. I might have to go back for that sometime.
I really enjoyed the variety of the levels in Portrait of Ruin for the DS. It gave me a vibe like Castlevania 3 and Super Castlevania where the levels were weirdly and drastically different settings as you progressed.
I also thought the wonky N64 games were pretty fun and had interesting levels to explore. They're awful to play on the original hardware on account of memory pack shenanigans but the level design had a lot more things to see and weird puzzles to solve.

Hmmm that's a lot of recommendations. Maybe I'll just play them all before the GBA series.

Not only that, but there is a room that tracks all the chairs upon which you have sat... and finding them all makes an extra-special secret chair appear for you to sit on.

Played spelunky for the first time, the design is so tight, haven't appreciated a good game in a long time.
