When I switched computers I didn't want to buy game maker again so I looked into some free alternatives such as xna and flash. Never went back.
When I switched computers, I typed in my code, and got GM.
I never got a single update after I bought 7. Fixes weren't done to core problems with the engine until Game Maker 8.
GM7 is the only product where you didn't necessarily get a free upgrade to the new version of GM.
GM5 got a free update to GM6.
GM 5&6 got free updates to GM7
For a certain time period, GM7 users got GM8 for free.
And of course, GM8 got GM8.1 for free.. which sounds less impressive, but is probably a big an update as 6 to 7 was, or 7 to 8. Heck, there's a lot of new stuff in .1
So yes, timing wise you were pretty unlucky mate. I bought GM7, got a free update to GM8, and got a free update to GM8.1.
You may think it's sad you didn't get a free GM7 to 8 upgrade, but just bare in mind that when GM8 was released, YYG's hadn't turned a profit since they began. And there is no real reason to believe that they have started to turn a profit since, either.
Certainly, I would say that the supposition that they were holding 'bug fixes ransom for another $20' would seem to be a little inaccurate, surely?
yeah, i didn't get free updates either. you only get free updates if you bought it in 2010 or later. i bought it in 2006, in 2007, and in 2008.
In 2006, wasn't that GM6? If you bought GM6, your upgrade to GM7 would have been free, wouldn't it?
Im poor so $40 bucks is alot
I agree that $40 is a cheap for what it is, but a fair chunk of money.
GM lite is actually really functional, though. Check out this guys games:
http://www.yoyogames.com/users/MaelronThey regularly hold competitions with prizes of $1000,$500,$250 for 1st, 2nd, 3rd, respectively.I think it'd be cool if they also offered GM registration as minor prizes, too. I definitely think it'd be an idea they would be interested in. Maybe I should drop the idea around at the GMC, YYG's regularly read (good) topics on there now.
Also, one of the things that got many Lite, or any GM users upset was that they were introducing a water-marked logo onto lite created .exe's.
You may like to know that I'm pretty sure this is no longer the case, they dropped it in one of the GM8.1 updates.
