In response to hangedman, the entire game will be based on a satire of American social politics and all of its mechanics will somehow reflect that. It won't just be a reskin of a generic roguelike. For instance you'll have to deal with taxes (unless you're homeless or an illegal immigrant
illegal immigrants actually do pay taxes, you know
I know, sales taxes, etc. They just can't be taxed at a specific address because they technically don't exist as far as the IRS is concerned. It's pure game balancing. Again, none of this is reflective of my personal political beliefs, which brings me to
You are pre-occupied enough with the character's gold getting over taxed to mention it twice, you make light of those darn blacks always quick to play the race card, and illegal immigrants mucking up your country without paying their fair share. I don't think there is much of an indie game playing audience among the demographic these type of jokes would pander to, they prefer fox news, various radio outlets, and churches. Maybe if there was some way to distribute the game through chain emails mocking Obama you could have a marketable product on your hands, although I don't know if sweet hex skills would be enough to craft such a game and there doesn't appear to be a large quantity of indie game programmers with that particular political bend. Should result in a pretty good troll thread though.
Most people find me offensively liberal, including Democrats of all shades, and I'm sorry you're unable to have an open mind about how to approach racism. I have no personal problem with illegal immigration, although the conditions many people enter the country and work under are deplorable and I think most if not all illegal immigrants would much rather be citizens if our government would allow it. I not only don't mind taxes but consider myself a socialist and think the upper 10% ought to be taxed into paying for an equal playing field, and as far as "the race card" goes, no matter which way you look at it, there are people who muddle social debate by injecting hostile accusations of prejudice where they don't belong. It's not just "those darn blacks" as
you had the gall to call an entire race of people, whether you thought you were lampooning the way I think or not; self-righteous and insecure white people play the race card all the time because they don't want to confront racism's social origins, they just want to pretend it doesn't exist so they can live with their white guilt. I used to do it too, calling anyone who asked uncomfortable questions out of a genuine sense of curiosity "a racist". But I grew out of it. We may have very different tactics, but I assure you I'm on your side.
Do not lump me in with the neocons simply because I'm making light of their worldview instead of declaring everyone who disagrees with me to be the worst of the worst as far as ignorance is concerned.
And no, this is not a troll thread. But if it was I would be the greatest troll ever. Which is something a troll would say yes. I'm going to go ahead and lock the thread because the advice I'm getting is generally more hypothetical and accusatory than constructive, and it'll be a long time before I can work on this anyways. When I have something to actually present and not just an idea, I'll see what the community thinks then.
