This week I've got something different for everyone planned.

Instead of just like a 'theme' like fire or ice or intensity,
I'd like everyone to do a chiptune 'de-mix' of a song they like.
(if you absolutely hate chiptunes, this can be slightly neglected,
(ie: you dont have to use basic waveforms) but it should
still sound relatively lo-fi - as long as you adhere
to the second portion of the challenge)

This is something i tend to do a lot when I'm low on inspiration.

the catch, however is, everyone must dust off their tracking skills
and make the song in any of their favorite tracking software -
ModPlug, Milkytracker, ETC.

I too, will be participating in this.  Two weeks everyone, hope
you all can handle it.  Lets see your .Mod/.IT/.XM skills!!

EDIT: You can also use the .NSF file format if you so desire.

By chiptune i mean basically anything that sounds relatively lo-fi,
be it basic wave-forums or crappy 8bit samples, or whatever works for you.

I'm fairly lenient as long as its made in a tracker, as thats the assignment.  and that its a remix ('de-mix') of an existing song

Do you hate them that much that you intend to torture me? :D
ha hahahaa i just figure ive been spending a fairly considerable amount of time in them as of recent.. and thought, why not let everyone enjoy the joys and 'joys' of tracking!

and EVERYONE is allowed and encouraged to participate!
lets see what you've got! :D

I'm in. Not entirely sure if I want to ruin the surprise yet, though.

(Though I did in the chat.)

I really really suck at trackers. I hope I can get this done.

Guys, I'm afraid I'm going to have to sit this one out due to some personal issues as of late.  I look forward to hearing all the submissions though!

AAAAAAH I just spent the day transcribing like one-and-a-half bars of something into MMF format that doesn't really sound that good. AAAAAAAAAAAAH.  (sounds better than it did w/ milkytracker though).

musagi musagi musagi.

Wait: are we allowed to use musgai/pxtone?  I thought we were restricted to using actual trackers?  It would be really nice if we were.  But it would also mean that the many, many hours of torture I've inflicted upon myself over the past week would have been entirely unnecessary.

I think you're supposed to use something that outputs a module - i.e. .MOD, .XM, .S3M, .IT, and .NSF (and probably .SID). I dunno though Smiley

I don't think it's meant to be that hard to make good music with a tracker - the opposite should be true, really.

Well I've been having troubles.  Sad

1:Milkytracker, the main mac tracker, has several rather important functions that can only be accessed with keys that do not exist on my macbook.  Not essential functions, but ones like 'insert row' and the like whose absence can be rather intensely frustrating at times.
2:I don't know where to get decent-sounding chiptuny samples :/  (most have too much detail to pass in a chiptune song)
3:I couldn't get any C64 emulators to work Sad
4:I am getting the hang of MML/NSF stuff, but, also: I don't really know what to do with the sample channel, because I don't have any decent samples and can't find any on-line.

(pxtone files are moddish, aren't they? (made up of monophonic lines, sampled, &c.))
